Replacing 5.1 Receiver

Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement of the audio receiver?
I need a model number. I'll also need a receiver that can control speakers in living room, bedroom separately and also run both rooms at the same time.
Thank, Jack

The marketing of stereo receivers is not near what it used to be due to all the new technology nowdays. Choices are few at say Best Buy, Target, or other electronics retailers. Ironically a good place to look for a good receiver is at garage sales as people just want to get rid of them. The biggest issue you'll have is finding a new stereo receiver with an A/B swich for separate speaker sets. Perhaps you need to look at getting a receiver you can live with and adding an external A/B switch for switching the broadcast between the bedroom and living room. Radio Shack carries them as well as places on the internet. There will be some wiring involved though. I know I didn't really answer your question, but thought I'd point out the A/B switch possibility.

I looked for quite some time trying to find a new DVD/5.1 system with the A/B speaker feature. Could not find one. Finally just went to Best Buy and looked at their DVD home theater systems. Bought a Panasonic as it was the closest in size to my original. It needed to fit in the relatively small slot in the cabinet as I did not want to start cutting on the cabinetry. I still did some as the speakers were slightly larger and I had to open up those openings a little.
But it does sound much better than the original no-name system. And do not really miss the A/B feature as I never used it except when playing the ipod thru the sound system.
