All is not well on the Northern Gulf Coast
Our military folks along the gulf coast have really taken one in the stomach the past couple of weeks. They have lost five special operations airmen, one soldier and now four coastguardsmen.
Please say a little something for their families.

And there have been several accidents over here on the West Coast where Marines were involved. I believe there was one or two training exercise accidents, and a civilian style traffic accident where 3 Marines lost their lives while on leave and one is hanging on to his life.
While it's sad every time, when accident statistics become personal knowledge it sure makes it seem more as such a waste of lives.
And now for us it seems even more disconcerting, since we have been tracking our nephew's journey from recently joining the Army right around Thanksgiving, to the locations of each of his training stations in the U.S., to the completion of Airborne training and now his first duty station he's being sent to a base outside Kandahar as I type. He started his journey this past Saturday and as of yesterday he was in Germany. He and his unit are expected to be on base by this weekend. Now we get to think and fret that his and his fellow soldiers ongoing training and living will now be under fire.
We must pray for the fallen and for those in active service. We can thank God their efforts that allow us to pray are through their efforts and service personnel before them. Thanks to all our vets and now we pray.

Ours are with them also , Pineranch. So very glad my son left Kandahar today and should arrive home on Sat. or Sun. May God bless our warriors. Larry

Your average run of the mill civilian has no clue as to how hazardous the military is even in peacetime or when stationed stateside. Nearly everything we do is dangerous in some way...weapons, helicopter operations, live fire exercises...and all at night.
On edit...I flew a CH 47 (Chinook) in VN with a warrant officer who used to say we should not be flying at night, that night air "had no lift."

Spent a career in the Army and nobody appreciates more than I the risks associated with military service! And how hard the leadership chain trys to keep those risks as low as possible.

My cousin in Birmingham saw a Coast Guard Honor Guard bus headed south on I-65, headed to Mobile. How sad.

As Mom of 2 Coasties, it makes me cry when I hear about our men and women in the military losing their lives, no matter whether they are on US soil or overseas. One of my sons is out to sea right now, and the other one leaves next month for another southern trip.
The Marine accident that cost 7 young men their lives happened near to where we are staying now and they have been having ceremonies this week for them. It is heart wrenching to see and hear the helicopters flying overhead in formation in their honor.
We appreciate our military every day of our lives.

Coast guard helicopter dropped into Mobile Bay on Wednesday - three of four service members unaccounted for. Training excersise - dense fog I guess.
Our prayers are with them and their family, as well as all our military -- daily.

Welcome home brother, I flew with the 213TH Blackcats(Chinooks) out of PhuLoi 67-68. What was your unit? Night flights were, to say the least, more interesting. Especially the first night of Tet. Larry (Chinooks + Tow Trucks = HOOK)

To TLightning, Hook, and all VN Vets.............Welcome home. Marine here from the 2nd Marines infantry 1969. CAP Marine here and feel blessed that I made it home. To many of our comrades didn't get so lucky, so therefore I feel privaleged that I am here today.
Thanks to all our miltary people for the work they do daily to give me the life that I have now!! Be safe and be careful!
