Slides won't retract - cold weather?

We were set to take off today to fulltime travel. However, we have had weather in the teens the last few days and a snow storm yesterday. As we were to head south through Va and the Carolinas where they have snow also, we are staying put until the roads clear.

However, late yesterday we wanted to pull slides in to keep snow off the slide toppers. The slides will not retract. Our unit is less than one year old. We have lived in it since we purchased it last March. The last time the slides were in was in Sept when we took a weekend camping trip. No problem then.

As it is Sunday, we can't contact the dealer. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you hear the pump trying to run? If you don't check the in-line fuse.

No disrespect meant, but did you open the slide shutoff valves?

Slide shutoff valves open, Pump is tyring to run. Bedroom slides retacts VERY slowly and not all the way. The bedroom comes in first so since it does not come it all the way, the rest do not attempt.

Check that you have some fluid in your reservoir.

In cold weather, hydrolic fluid can get a bit heavy and not flow as easily. If you've ever seen boom trucks parked at night with their booms up, that is done so, in the morning, when they release the valves and the boom lowers, it moves the fluid and helps it flow better before the pump tries to move the fluid to raise the boom. Just a thought. I don't have a solution, sorry. I don't think your system is broken, just cold.

We have pulled slides in at 4 below. They moved slow, and stopped. Release finger from button, wait half a minute or more, start slides moving again. They did eventually go all the way in. We did NOT try to open them once they stopped, we kept going towards closed. (Not sure that makes sense, so, try this - - once you start closing, keep closing.)

I see you have toppers, still have to wonder if there is not some ice somewhere jamming up the works?? Grasping at ice straws, I know.

Probably not much help, try to remember, this will not be the only problem, trial, or difficulty you will face on your long road of full timing (given that you have already had a rough time just getting started). You will overcome, and another day's delay is not the worst thing that could happen, not going at all is mucho worse!

Let us know how you make out, and enjoy the rest of your trip/full timing life. Some of us don't get to go there, but sure would love to try.

Got the slides in. Built up of ice. Len used neighbors leaf blower to dislodge it. We will stay in here tonight with slides in. FUN! I am really hoping the roads are not bad out there. We need to go out shortly to Walmart. Will see how they are locally at that time. I would hope that tomorrow US301 through Delaware, Md and into VA is not a problem.
