How to find an electrical short?

I was working on my water pump down by the furnace (3075 Montana) and must have hit something because I saw a spark. After that I discovered that the ac lights in the bedroom and bath area don't work. I have checked the breaker switch but nothing has kicked off. I reset them anyway but the lights still don't work. Any suggestions on how I can trace this problem? Thanks John

Double check to make sure a fuse for the 12V lights did not blow. On our 3400 only the lights above the sink over the cabinet are 120v, the ceiling are all 12v.

You also might have tripped one of the GFCI receptacles if, in fact, it's the ac lights that are off.

This happened to me once. Even with a fuse or circuit breaker, the bulbs went bad. You can swap the bulbs just to check the bulbs aren't bad.

Otherwise, check the circuit breaker or GFCI as mentioned. I am sure others will mention other things for debugging.

John, you probably know this but I'm going to say this anyhow and hope I am not insulting you. The GFCI "breaker" is on one of the GFCI switch wall plates. Ours is in the one at the bathroom sink. I can't recall whether the one on the outside of the slide has one or not and since it's raining and we're in a thunderstorm I'm not going to go look.

Thanks to all,I did find the errant GFCI which had done it job and popped when I must have sent it a surge while working below it. John
