Sue,
we've used the convection quite a bit and love it. If there is something that can't be microwaved it is a lot easier to put it in the convection instead of lighting the regular oven.

They work but don't replace the propane.
Can't imagine trying to boondock without an oven. I guess I could put up with it when travelling... but why?? Propane is already there for the range top. Wieghs less then the convection oven. Works fine when you get used to it.
Lighting the pilot has never seemed to be a hardship.

I have the microwave convection oven in our stick house but I don't think I really need to have it in the 5er. I use the convection oven when I don't want to heat the house in the summer time, and it does cook faster. when we are in the 5er I use a lot of slowcooker and electric skillet. the real problem would be if you are not plugged into land power it would be pretty useless, at least I think. I could never get along without a regular oven.

Gruffy,
We don't boondock very often so didn't think of that. You can't use the microwave or the convection when boondocking. Lighting the pilot is no problem if you can kneel, I can't so it is a problem.

I have owned a covection/microwave for approx 5 years in our home. Love it. In fact most ovens in Europe are now convection which is far quicker. I was thrilled we had the convection/microwave in the 5er and have used it a lot. I however would not want to do without the propane oven. Diana

Actually we can use the microwave.... both the inverter and/or the genny will run it.
I understand it's tough to lite the pilot if you can't bend. Try using a long butane pizio BBQ lighter and a small mirror on the bottom of the oven. With a bit of practice you can see the pilot without bending.... don't forget to remove the mirror to keep harmony in the marriage.....(OOOPS)

When we had a sticks house, the convection oven was the oven of choice. So when we designed our camper, we opted to use the oven space for storage and just go with the microwave/convection oven. We have been full time for 14 months now and don't regret our choice. I guess whatever floats your boat as far as your preference for propane or convection oven. We can run our convection oven when we boondock. We have 4 batteries and a solar set-up with a 2500 watt inverter.

We've had a convection/micro combo in our stick house since 1985. Glenda loves it and uses it far more often than the regular oven. We haven't gotten our 3475 yet to see how well this one works but I'm sure Glenda will like it more than the propane.

Guffy...
Don't dump the propane! I have two group 27's and one group 24 for my inverter/solar setup and using the microwave still drains the system mucho fast! I did have a micro/conv combination in my boat and found that while not on shore or gen power the output on the oven was about half of what it should have been so took twice as long (not to mention what it did to my radar at the same time LOL). Over the years I have found the microwave to be perfect for warming coffee or leftovers while boondocking or "on the hook" for you nautical types but for anything else, plug her in or start the gennie.. While on the subject, if you're boondocking with the tv still hooked up, don't go off for the day and leave the propane heater on or even with all the fancy solar/inv/batteries you may end up getting a jump from a nice lady in a '71 Fairlane. Not that that even happened to ME of course!

Thanks for all the replys, this is a first time for me with this setup and baking is one of my hobbies. Hope it works out well, we decided on this setup for more storage room in our new unit.
Thanks Again, Sue
