Bicycle rack issue

I have a recumbent bicycle. It is about two feet longer than a regular bike. I am reasonably sure a ladder rack will not work. I have heard of a hitch insert rack fitting into the truck hitch between the 5er and the truck and mounted after hook up. Has anyone seen this or tried it.

Of course, I am concerned about sharp turns, but that seems to be an issue related to backing and the bike could be removed before the attempt is made.

I don't think you'll have enough room. My hitch bike rack sticks out at least 2 feet. If you were to make a sharp turn even going straight it could make contact with the camper and damage both bike and camper and possibly the truck.

I bought a front mounted receiver from J.C. Whitney and put my bikes up there.

I also have a recumbent. Fortunately, it is a Linear and folds. I carry it on a hitch mounted rack at the rear of the fiver.

As to the between truck and trailer location, therre is actually a good deal of room. The Montana can be towed with the trucks tail gate down. I have a reciever mounted cargo carrier in that spot for carrying a bar-b-que, charcoal and dog food. It is easy to determine how much room you have by measuring from the pin straight back to the trailer. Then from the pin to the corner of the truck mounted load. The first measurement needs to be greater than the second.

Thank you, I never considered a front mounted rack. I guess that proves the concept of synergy. Synergistic thought declares that collectively we can come up with better ideas than the same group can individually. I guess the forum creates a mental critical mass.

I too have been looking for a receiver hitch for the back of the trailer, however, in most states and provinces it is illegal to have the license plate obscured.
This occurs mostly in areas that have photo radar.
