First long trip with late 2006 3400RL

As most of you know we are relatively new RV'ers and took our first really big trip recently. We are currently in Apache Junction, AZ after a 1600 mile trip from Snohomish, WA right at the end of the year. Had a very good trip with no major events other than running into mountain pass closures on I5 due to snow in the Suskiyou mountain range and at the Grape Vine. We were running heavy at a GCVW of over 21,500 lbs and that made the 2003 Ford F250 7.3L Diesel engine work a bit in the mountains. It never faltered, in fact got 14.8 MPG through the central CA valley.

The 3400RL had been winterized for the first time this fall by me and I was concerned I had done it right but once we got into the warmer California valley I brought all systems back up operating as normal. Absolutely no problems and the 3400RL had set unused for over 3 months in freezing weather at times. And in considerable rainfall for weeks on end. The only thing we noticed was some of the wood had taken on some moisture and the bathroom door and a few others were sticking a bit. Since we have started running the furnace that little problem has gone away.

Have now been in the La Hacienda RV Resort here in Apache Junction, AZ for about a week and no problems have shown up. I would recommend this RV resort highly. The 3400RL has treated us right and is very comfortable for our expected three month stay.

I again want to thank all of you who have been such a help to us newbies.

Good to hear from you. We are thinking about Quartzsite for a couple of reasons. There is a antique tractor show there the same weekend. But it feels so good to just sit and get settled in, that we may pass this year. Don't know yet.

Well we will be thinking of you while sitting around the camp fire and having a drink. Are you going to the rally in April? If we don't see you there we will be in Washington in all of July and August.

So nice to hear of another happy Montana owner. Glad your beautiful new 3400 has been treating you so well and also glad to hear you have the reliable 7.3 in your 03 Ford. The 6.0 has more power but gives less reliability especially in 03 and 04. Ask me how I know. Having owned two fantastic 7.3s I got hung with a lemon 04 6.0 and now I have a reliable, thirsty V10 gasser but to me reliability is number one and it is good to see you have a reliable Fiver and also a reliable TV.
Take care and hope you have a great winter down south. The weather up here in the North West has been just terrible, wind and rain.........wind and rain. How I envy you lucky folks down south and I hope I can spend some winters down there when I retire in four years. Don.
