Gas prices in Canada
We've encountered gas prices from $.82Can to $1.12Can per liter. A pleasant surprise is that we have gotten discounts from the campground for 4% or $.10Can per liter. These prices are for diesel which is generally cheaper than regular gas.

You mean diesel is still cheaper than unleaded in Canada? Hmmm. I'm still wondering why diesel jumped up above gasoline in the states. Judy and Glen, nice surprise to help out your trip, huh?

You're right, Steve. We were very happy to see that this is the case. Works out to be about the same as some parts of California. It's readily available, too.

Most places in Ontario, Canada sell diesel for at least .10 per litre (.45 gal) less than regular gasoline. It sure bothers us when we head down south and see the price reversed.

Another pleasant surprise related to gas prices is the fact that many campgrounds offer their customers a discount on gas prices. Everything helps. They range from 3% to 10 cents per gallon.

Yes folks, on the Canadian prairies too in Manitoba, we consistantly have had diesel priced at 6 to 10 cents cheaper than unleaded. A trend we hope will continue!!!

I just got the current PEMEX price for diesel in Mexico---$1.76 a gallon (U.S. Dollars). I'm installing a transfer flow tank in the truck next week, so I may make a "speed run" to either TJ or Tecate & fill up---this would save me almost $73 on a 90 gallon fill-up...! Getting ready to "go south" for one of this summers' fishing trips anyway, so while I'm down there getting fuel, I can pick up the Tourist Visa at the same time. I live in San Diego County so its only an hour drive to TJ & 1 1/2 hours to Tecate from the house.

Those prices sound great, Thomas. Sure wish they'd come down in the US.

Folks, I live in Ontario Canada and while diesel has been about 10 cents a liter cheaper than gas over the past years this seems to not be the case this summer. Diesel prices do not fluctuate as much as gas so on any particular day you may see one cheaper than the other by only a couple of cents. Today diesel is selling for 89.9 cents/liter and gas is 87.9 cents/liter in our area. Who knows what tomorrow brings.
I've always felt that diesel should be cheaper than gas since it gets less refining. Wouldn't that mean less cost to produce?
Question for the New Yorkers. I'm driving to Long Island this weekend to visit our son in his new home. Is diesel readily available at gas stations in that area?? At home about 95% of gas stations carry diesel but I'm not sure around New York. Never been there before!
Thanks....

Chester, our experience has been that diesel is always cheaper than gas on the Alaska route so far. I think your comment about diesel needing less refining and therefore should be cheaper is much like fatfree and sugarfree food products. The more they take out, the higher the price.
