PRICING ON A 2005 3650RK
JUST GOT BACK FROM OUR MONTY DEALER AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL NEW 3650RK'S WILL NO LONGER BE THE STEP DOWN VERSION AND THEY HAVE REDESIGNED THE BEDROOM AREA TO ACCOMMODATE A WASHER/DRYER.
HAD THE DEALER GIVE ME HIS BOTTOM LINE PRICE FOR THIS UNIT WITH EVERY OPTION INCLUDING THE WASHER/DRYER AND 5500 ONAN GENERATOR. THE LIST PRICE WAS $64,945 AND HE CAN LET IT GO FOR $55,340. STILL SOUNDS A LITTLE ON THE HIGH SIDE. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD DEAL TO YOU? HAS ANYONE OUT THERE PURCHASE A SIMILAR UNIT THAT CAN HELP ME WITH THIS.
THANK YOU,

The price may sound right. I have the 2005 pricelist and the 3650 base price is 44,375. Add the washer/dryer and gen preps along with any other options it has on it and it could come to 55,000. The prep alone for the washer and gen is over 800.00. The prices of the 2005s have gone up now that they are adding a lot of Big Sky options in the Montanas. We just ordered a new 3475 loaded for around 46,000 (2nd time at the same dealer). And was able to getthe retail price for our 2003 3655FL beause they had a buyer for it. However, were keeping our old washer/dryer with them installing it in the new rig. We also are keeping the 2000 Honda Gen that runs everything but the AC.

I GUESS WHAT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FOR WAS IF A 15% DISCOUNT OFF OF LIST PRICE WAS STANDARD OR FAIR...IS THIS A DEAL? I AM PLANNING ON CONTACTING A FEW DEALERS TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN OFFER, BUT THOUGHT THAT FOLKS THAT ALREADY DEALT WITH MONTY DEALERS COULD HELP.
THANKS,

The 3475 is new this year. there was one at the factory when the rally went on the factory tour. They started production in Nov. Its a 3400 with three slides. The L-shaped kitchen is fixed. It is 37ft long just as our 3655FL. The dealer already hasd one on the lot in Manassass VA. Ours will be delivered in late January.

Trust me, never take a dealers first offer. They will always move from that. If you are serious about buying that unit and you tell them you will purchase that unit that day for the right deal, you should be able to purchase a unit with a MSRP of $65,945, if the shipping is included in the MSRP, for around $49000. If you can get them close say within $1000 offer them the gentleman's split of 50/50, they'll probably take it. Now, I'm not going to tell you how I figured this, but there is a book you can purchase over the internet that explains the mark-ups on RV's and how to make a deal Its worth the money, $17 for a download, because i've tried the formula out 3 times and its worked every time. I don't have it with me, but i'll get the info and post it later.

OK, got the info. The book is "RV Buyers Survival Guide" and it available at http://www.rvbookstore.com. I believe its $23.95 for a book and $17.00 for a download. I wouldn't buy an RV without at least reading the last chapter.

There is a bit of supply and demand in play, so it depends a little on how hungry the dealer is and how long that unit has been on his lot. I sold RVs on and off for a couple of years not too long ago, so don't imagine things have changed much. As far as the MSRP goes, often the mfgr just prints what the dealer specifies. The general dealer markup is 40% and on higher end models, it can be as much as 45%. Basically, a unit with a MSRP of $50,000 cost the dealer $30,000. Sometimes shipping is extra.
Based on these values, the dealer is only going to give you at the most what he can wholesale your trade-in for less 10% or $2,000 whichever is greater. This should give you a bottomline to shoot for in dealing. Unless you are in love with your dealer, it will pay to shop around, especially if you order what you want since the dealer isn't flooring it.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES.
I CONTACTED A COUPLE OF DEALERS AND DID GET SOME QUOTES OVER THE PHONE (A COUPLE OF DEALERS WOULDN'T QUOTE ME A PRICE UNLESS I CAME TO SEE THEM). ONE DEALER WILL SELL ME THE RIG FOR JUST UNDER $49K, PLUS $3K FOR THE ONAN 5500 (HIS COST..OR THAT'S WHAT HE IS SAYING) AND $1100 FOR THE WASHER/DRYER COMBO THAT WILL FIT IN THIS UNIT.
THEN I CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND TOLD HIM WHAT I CAN GET THE RIG FOR, AND SUDDENLY HE CAN SELL IT TO ME FOR JUST UNDER $53K. I'M NOT YET DONE NEGOTIATING WITH EITHER DEALER YET.
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR INPUTS.

The numbers given above seem about right...the dealer has "overhead" costs which he must meet in addition to the cost to him of the rig and shipping. That amounts to around 10-12%, as I recall.
Our 2003 rig had a MSRP quoted at about 50K (+/-) we got it for 40K. They took our first offer of 40K, which makes me think that we could have done better. And this was in California, Land of High Overhead and the Price Gouge. Maybe we could have knocked a couple of thousand off of that, but that is 20/20 hindsight.
Seems like about 20-25% off of the quoted price should work about right. Meets the dealer's overhead costs and still gives him a slight profit.
Double dittos on the worth of the book mentioned. Especially the last chapter.
Best,

PennyC, I think you being taken to the cleaners for that price. We just bought a 2005, 3400RL, fully loaded with everything excep the generator ( we go the second A/C) and beat that price quoted you by $8K. I would get your dealer to re-look his price.

If you are willing to purchase your unit from Elkart Indiana and probably have to pick it up there, I know you can get at least 30% off the MSRP on a ordered unit. I have done it four times and pulled the units back to Colorado. (two Montanas, two Forest Rivers) You might find that the servicing dealer in your area may not be too receptive to your problems if you have any. The dealers in Elkart are very good at pre-delivery and will let you stay in there campground at the dealership to correct any problems before you head home. Some dealers in our area will refuse to do warranty work if you did not purchase from them. Problems I have had I corrected myself or contacted the Keystone service rep. and he directed me to the MFG. of the product in question. Like the 1/2 time ovens, the useless Quest home theater system and the Dexter axle Co. I do have some advantage on the service aspect as I install accessories on RV's and am a Dealer for Onan,Generac,Trailair,Dometic,MorRide and a few others. There are dealers that will do warranty work on any Keystone product, but you may have to wait and get fit into there schedule during the busy season. Kacey RV center in Denver, replaced the tires and axles on a friends Keystone Larado under warranty. He bought it in Indiana. He did have to wait four weeks for the repairs. You may be better off if you sell your current unit rather than trade, although they do take trades in Indiana.
None the less the dealers in Indiana depend on out of state sales and will treat you right if you can live without a dealer next door for service.
Joe S.

Dont know if this helps, but my 2004 3650RK listed, will all the options we got, for 53K and we got it for 42K with a trade that was only 1 year old.
Also, I am curious to see the new one without the step down kitchen, if anyone has pics, please email them to me.

Ken may I ask what you mean by this. We are considering the purchase of a 3400 and am wondering if there is a problem with the L shaped kitchen which we liked.
Thank you
