How about an 800,000 BTU furnace?

I worked on one today, it would heat a bunch of Montanas!

Judging from our last electric bill at the stick house, I think someone snuck in and installed one of those in our basement!!! Come on Spring!!!

Bingo, do you have a heat pump with auxiliary electric heat?

Ozz,
Yes times two. Auxilliary heat requires changing jumper pins in the thermostats, so I know auxilliary has not kicked in. Our main problem is it has been so daggone cold lately and Cathy is cold-blooded anyway. I have programmable thermostats but she over-rides my energy saving settings constantly. Go figure!! I did buy a samll electric fireplace with heater for the living room and told her to leave the thermostats alone and sit in front of the fireplace!!

Ha! we sit in our chairs with fuzzy fairly heavy blankets Sue got at Sam's Club. We keep the living room at 68 degrees and have a ceiling fan going. You can program the thermostats (most of them) to stay in over-ride for from 3 minutes to a few hours, also you can lock out the keyboards. Both of which we wouldn't do to our families, for obvious reasons, but in a business it works great. I have also moved thermostats controlling spaces and installed fake ones that just make the fan run, works slick!
Most heat pump thermostats engage the condensing unit and if that doesn't keep up with the heating needs, the second stage-or aux. heat kicks in; gas or electric.
Around here, most people don't even use the heat pump mode, the supply air is too cool coming from the registers, feels too much like a draft. I wouldn't have one, the most expensive part of a HVAC system is the compressor, with a HP it runs 365.
But I understand why people use them.

I bet that would empty a 30lb. tank pretty fast!

Foggyb, that was kind of pretty for a moment and then I got the shivers. Just like home after a big snow the trees are pretty and I think it would be nice to walk in the woods and see mother natures beauty. Instead, I go home and snowblow a quarter mile driveway and most of that goes in my face.

Rich, as cool as it may be there, it just has to be better winter than up North here. But...Spring is around the corner.
Enjoy it down there for us home-bound folks.
