Bought diesel yesterday in New Braunfels, TX, Exxon travel/truck stop At hwy. 306 and IH 35 for $2.47. Other places in town are $2.99 to $3.09.

Our diesel price is still $2.999 here in the Santa Rosa, CA area.

Our local Shell stations continue to drop - now at $2.93. Sure hope it keeps up.

But have you noticed that it is still anywhere from $.50 to $.85 higher than 87 octane gasoline? I know that the law of supply and demand is in action but I fail to see how diesel fuel, which is a by-product of refining gasoline, should be that much higher than gasoline. If it weren't for the fact that diesel engines are more powerful, I'd be tempted to buy a V-10.

Diesel fuel nd heating oil are essentially the same thing.The market for heating oil is up,up,up..There is more $ in refining heating oil than Diesel..hence the shortage of diesel and the higher price?????

That could be part of the answer. I still don't think there is a "real" shortage which would be the prime reason for prices going up SO HIGH.

The latest on refining is that capacity is back to 95% since Katrina and Rita so there should be an increased supply of diesel/heating oil and other petroleum products to retailers in the near future.

The city of Cushing, Oklahoma has stepped forward and volunteered to have any oil company build a new refinery in their "backyard." Cushing, Ok. is not new to the oil business as there has been oil production there since the early 1900's. At the end of World War I there were 17 refineries, by the end of World War II this number was reduced to 2, with the last one closing in 1982. There are still environmental clean up efforts in progress today from these old refineries, but the city of Cushing is not afraid to welcome a new refinery. Cushing, Ok. is also known as the pipeline cross roads of North America.

Hey, Doug come on down to Hemet, we are a lot cheaper. Ed and I have been discussing why this may be happening here. Hemet is a big Snowbird town. We have a lot of winter visitors from the Northwest and Canada (over 10,000). This is the month when they start arriving and we think the gas stations my be dropping prices for them. Okay by us. Ed filled up today for under $100.

I would not normally be happy for filling up for under $100.00 until this last summer. The diesel prices are border line ridiculous. I filled up my Chevy Tahoe yesterday and was thrilled to pay $2.469 for regular. I can remember way back when I was just a youngster that we paid $.149 for regular gas when we were in the desert of Nevada.

$2.25 for reg. unleaded and $2.75 for diesel here in Bastrop today. It has come down only .10 this week. We hope it goes more.

Seen $3.29, $3.02, $2.79 all within 5 miles of each other just yesterday. Seems some of the stations are holding out a little longer before lowering prices.

It is documented that retailers make more profit on fuel as the wholesale market declines. Profit is an average of .10/gal as the price is increased but .30/gal as the market declines and prices are not likely to fall as fast as they were increased.

Gas prices are down to 2.09/2.04 with diesel 50 to 60 cents higher. That is still way to high.Fuel has got to be a lot cheaper than that for folks like us who would like to do maybe 15K miles a year in traveling around the country.Gas at @ 9-11 or diesel at 11 to 13 is still expensive traveling.Friend of ours who is pulling a 3670RL with a 04 Dodge Diesel was just on the phone with me complaining that they are doing 11.5 MPG when everyone told him they would get 13/14 towing..welcome to the real world....He is going to install a banks system.Anyhow we are going over to hook up our truck to the 3670 to get some instruction on hooking and unhooking the fifth wheel since we are new to 5ivers.

Your friend will truly like the Banks system. We put the power pack, and exhaust brake with TransComman Module and Smart-lock on our Ford and it made a whale of a difference. Not only did we get a considerable increase in power but we got 1-2 mpg more than we did before.

He traded from a Motor home 4 /6 MPG to the Dodge and 3670 Montana.He was expecting better than 11.5MPG.Am sure the banks system will get at least 2MPG better ..that will make him happy

Flying J in Fort Chiswell, VA had it for 2.34 on Friday. Cheapest we have bought in months. Running 2.79 or more in the Smokies. History will repeat itself and it will be cheaper than unleaded again. Hopefully sooner than later.
