Route Suggestions for Topsail trip

Looking for advice on best route to take from Charleston, WV to Topsail in Destin. Yahoo is saying Lexington then south, wondering if 77 south to Charlotte then 26 over or 77 south to 81 to Knoxville then south is a better route. Any experiences helpful. Thanks,
Bingo

Bingo,

I would take 77 to Charlotte then 85 thru Atlanta, Ga to 185 to Columbus,Ga then 431 down to Dothan, Al and 231 to Rt10 in Florida.
Rt 26 may be a little bad in the winter and once you get to Charlotte it should be nice weather from there on. Don't take the bypass in Atlanta, Ga. stay on 85 right thru town.
Either way you decide to go have a great trip.

Thanks awaywego for confirmation of what I thought would be the best route. Have drove the route to Charlotte many times and thought that would be better. Ironically, after I posted this question I checked the mileage for the three different routes and amazingly all three routes were within 20 miles of each other. Now all I have to do is wait for these next two weeks to HURRY UP AND PASS!!!
