Quartzite -- where did you all go?

I had to fly from Phoenix to Lancaster CA and back today. My route took me directly over Quartzite. It was damn near empty of campers. So was the desert all around. Amazing transition. When did you all leave?

Hmmm... Phoenix is 130 miles east of Quartzite. And Lancaster is northeast of Phoenix... Are you sure it was Quartzite you were seeing?

It sure seems like a strange air route.

Oops. I just saw that you went to Lancaster, California. Now your flight path makes sense. I am surprised to hear that Quartzite is empty.

Dave,

Did you do Canon de Barrancas on your own or with a tour? I took a train from Los Mochis to Creel 15 years ago. I'm ready to take the flatbed RV trip soon. How was it? And, can you move from the TV to the RV while the train is in motion?

I drove through the town of Quartzite on April 3/06 , two weeks ago. I was driving my folks home in my Dad's van because Dad is almost 80 and had a medical problem. He is OK now.

Anyway, I had never been through this area before and I have heard that there are thousands of units to be seen so I guess relatively speaking it is emptying out but I still saw hundreds of units and we were passing Snowbirds all the way up to Las Vegas and then all the way up to Jackpot Nevada on the Idaho border. I only saw 6 Montanas and they all looked great and gave me a big shot of ownership pride. The next time I get back to Quartzite, I will have my Monty with me I hope.

Hi Dave,
We left at the end of Jan. along with many others. By the middle of March and certainly by the middle of April it is almost "empty" out that direction. It is an amazing site to see and I suspect from the air it is even more impressive.

Actually, to me the amazing part is it is not just Quartzite, but there are encampments all over the desert where ever there is Interior Department Land and even meager access roads. Using Phoenix as a base, we have done some of this ourselves over the years but juswt for a weekend here or there. Now, people come from all over and stay for weeks. It would be fun to do an aerial map about the third week in January.
