advice wanted

We have a 2003 3280RL and would like to know how others strap down the recliners, no matter how I do it they seem to rub something, maybe I need to drive slower.
Also the first time I used the water heater I had to remove the cold air vent for the furnace to get to a valve, I was told by someone this was a "winter bypass valve" I would think that there is a better way to bypass the water heater.
Thanks,jerryb
