Okierver,
Go to the link below. It shows that the height limitation is 13.92 feet. Anything over that and you have to take the alternative route over Loveland Pass; the old route 6.

Good luck. Dennis

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel has a clearance of 13'6" and semis and fifth wheels go through it all the time. The height of my Monty is 13'3" just like the big rigs.

Our previous 2980RL measured out at 12 ft 6 inches and we had no problems the two times we traveled throught the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Our Montana is 13' 3.5" to the top of the front air. We went thru last Oct. with no problem.
A lot of big rigs drive the route evey day with no problems.

The only trucks (besides has-mat) that have problems are the high cube trailers like the van lines use.

I thought I read several times somewhere that the vehicle height limit in Colorado is only 13 feet, the lowest in the U.S. Keeping under that and there should be nothing to worry about except when there is a sign that states lower than that. And this occurs in all states somewhere, on some road and I hope I am not towing at the time.

I believe at last check I was 12' 9", but I don't remember for sure and don't recall if I was hitched up at the time (I sit nose high with the Monty, but the nose slopes down quite a bit and therefore might not make a difference). But I really should know.

However, the point being we all should really take a measurement of our rigs. Don't rely on the specs because we each might have changed our suspension, gone with bigger tires, added an A/C, a permanently installed roof mount satellite system, gotten a new truck that sits higher and any of these can increase the height of the rig. Then you'll want some margin above that. If you are driving fast enough and the road is rough doesn't this mean you'll gain some height, too? Maybe not much but every inch counts.

I think helmick has the best testimonial having relatively recently traveled that road. And if I confirm my rig's height, then I'd be comfortable with that route.

The maximum height that a vehicle can be without needing special permits is 13'6" which is the standard height of Semi trucks, for the US federal highway system.
Our Montana is 13'4". When traveling state roads and back roads whatch those RR overpasses. Many are mis-marked or not marked and our rigs won't fit under, driver beware!

Hope that helps
Bill

We're 13' 3" so when we travel down roads that have trees trimmed by semi trailers whose height is 13' 6", I don't worry much, though I still watch carefully. Interestingly, semi tractors are 13' 5" tall - why the inch difference, I don't know.

The way I measured was to estimate the highest point, then lowered an overhead bay door to within 6", then added a piece of rope that was marked in half inch intervals. Simply had Kat drive slowly until the tallest part of our rig passed under the rope. Then I just used a tape measure to verify our height.

Considering all of the different heights mentioned in this thread for the different configurations, and knowing that when I had my 3400RL, with F350 King Ranch, Crew Cab, Long bed, Reese Hitch, I was 13' 5". If I saw a sign that said 13' 6", I'd be puckering up, slowing down, and DW would have had to walk me through.

As Art stated, measure, then measure again. Interstate highways, I believe, have to clear 13' 6", the standard height of a box on a semi tractor trailer.

Went through there last year at 13'3 and had no problems. The biggest problem was the climb out of the Denver on 70, quite a pull in 95 degree heat. TV wasn't too happy LOL
