What Gets Power

If I'm using Dogbones to make my power cord work on my 120vac 20 amp outlet at home temporarily, what circuits get juice? I'm assuming reefer and converter box.

Everything should have power. You are limited to only 20 amps though.

That is the problem. Everything will have power you just won't have anywhere near enough. You'll have to turn the circuits off you don't want the power to go to.

So one more related ? Will my Progressive EMS get weirded out if it only sees one 120vac leg? If not, I can easily monitor amp draw at it.

Really? with only one leg of power coming in? For some reason I visualized that only half the circuits in the RV would have juice. And only have 2400 watts available to run "stuff" on that leg only?? I might have this all wrong but in my home any 120vac 20 amp circuit is a single feed. Normally on the 50 amp plug ins at parks, I get 2 120vac circuits that can dish out 50 amps each (6,000 watts each leg). I might have this wrong also. Help is always appreciated.

That is the purpose of the dogbone, it splits the power to both sides.

Actually the Dog Bone doesn't split the power, it takes the single 120 leg in a 20 amp duplex or 30 amp RV and ties it to both 50 amp legs. Therefore you only have or 20 or 30 amps to run your entire RV

Thanks for the explanation. Not what I had in my minds eye. While running permanent power to the 5r at home and checking the batteries ability to run the residential refrigerator, I thought I would try out the kluge of wire that this forum recommended to get for emergency hook up. Seems to work exactly how you described. And the EMS does not complain. Have 120 at each "leg" out of the EMS. Anything run over 20 amps will trip the house breaker.

One other thing of note. The reefer is going on 24 hours and the VDC at the inverter is down to 11.9. Reefer still showing 120 watts. The reefer run time has been low due to the ambient temp being from 40-60. Fairly sure if 100% instead of 20% would have died near 4-6 hours.

In Willis, Texas, "fairly sure" IS a very specific engineering term. Come visit in SE Texas sometime and watch as we load 4,000# logs on trailers. "fairly sure" the trailer will hold it. "Fairly sure" this rifle shoots nice groups.

I am fairly sure he is 100% correct, and yes, it is a term we use when decribing what we don't remember, at least I am fairly sure of that?

From, deep south Texas, Weslaco, 5 miles from the river.

Nope Fairly sure is not an engineering term. But I am fairly sure that trying to intimidate another Texan by stabbing a piece of paper with a pencil cause you are bored will be an epic fail

I'm fairly sure no pencil was used in that example.

The only place I know that "fairly sure" is not an engineering term is in the amateur astronomy community. As in I'm "fairly sure" I was able to see that really faint nebula ;+]

And the reefer made it 36-40 hours b4 the batteries got low enough to kick off the inverter! Crazy stuff this RVing.
