CT campground

We stayed in a NE CT campground for 14 months and electric usage charge was .19/kw. I was very surprised at how high our bill (usage ) was. We were gone 2 weeks in July last year and still used over 1100kw with ACs off. I was suspicious of meter used but with very limited spots up there open year round, we sucked it up and paid whatever. Average monthly usage was 900-1200kw. Refrigerator was always on propane. Water heater was on both.

We stayed in a campground in golf Shores Alabama for three months in the early winter and I thought the rates were pretty reasonable. They charged $.13 per kilowatt hour I don’t know if that helps but that’s the least that comparison for what other campgrounds might charge.

We have a seasonal site in the catskills, the electric is .22 per kw & we average 50$ a month. It is high but we pay under 2K for 5 1/2 months for a large river front site so Im not complaining. We have a residential fridge & leave the ac on all season & keep the hw heater on electric only.

We are in TN and in 10 days have used 110 kwh. We haven't needed the a/c, but run a fan for about half the day. We use a NuWave induction cook top, elec hot water heater, residential fridge w/ice maker, microwave, blow dryer 2x a day, and watch a lot of tv.

Sounds like you have been taken to the cleaners.

It looks like the usage is correct. My camper, used 89 KWH in 7 days, just sitting there on the site with no one there and the fridge on....those fridges use a lot, I calculated mine to use about 12 kWh a day

When you get back, Before you plug in, meter your box to make sure someone is not on your bill. Another park we stayed in our neighbor had a high bill also when he went full time on a spot and it turned out the park had wired the street light into his meter.

Highest we have paid in the last year was .18 cents. Also we always take a time stamped picture of the meter with our phone when we check in.

I think you should be talking to National Grid. My understanding is that a CG has to only do a direct pass through on cost of submetered electricity and what I was told by our National Grid supplied CG. This and other articles are good reads and may cause some excitement when you discuss with your landlord: <frolfm@ec2-18-224-34-87.us-east-2.rfxn.site>

Good luck!

For longer term stays, I prefer the CGs where you contact the Electric Supplier directly and setup an account, that way you know you are only paying for what you use.

I know in California the commercial rates is between $0.16 and $0.65 kwh depending on the time of day and the season, plus the delivery charge. During the summer when it's over a hundred degrees the rates jump up to $0.65kwh

I think I have 2 issues, 1, I dont like the high rate, 2...im having trouble believing the usage on my camper. The rate aside..i talk to someone yesterday on a different site who full times there, their bill last month was $108. Mine was $110, and I was there 5 nights out of the month, the rest of the time my unit sat there. Only thing running was my fridge, and 2 clocks. I doubt my Progressive Industries surge protector uses power. So far this month, the guy next to me, same size unit and runs 2 fridges is at HALF of what my usage is already, it just dosent make sense, He has a double door RV style fridge , like me, and he has a small fridge outside in a compartment, I am at 215 kWh since 5/31 already, he is at 106!!! something is not right, it dosent make sense.

While the rate is high, im trying to look away from my rate and figure out why my actual usage is so high. Perhaps there actually is another draw on my post.

Isn’t it against the law for a middle man to mark up the electric utility charge?

Ed,

Might be worth asking to swap spots at your campground.

So today I found out its not the campground., I unplugged my camper, and the meter stopped so there is no extra draw. So it is something in my unit with excessive draw, Ill save that for a different thread. I did find out some interesting thin gs though, in NYS, they are NOT supposed to up charge the electric, but they can add a REASONABLE fee for billing, equipment, etc, im not sure what reasonable would be. Im guessing once I get the issue with my camper fixed, and my draw goes down, it will be easier to swallow.
