Roof Leak

Had a roof leak last week when the rains here in Phoenix dumped 8 inches in just hours.

I used the Dicor sealant and this worked. However, I wanted to pass along a tip to dry out the interior area of the ceiling - the space between the roof and the ceiling that is full of insulation. I used the exhaust side of a vacuum to blow air into the void after removing one of the 12v lights. Got everything dry and no yellow circle!

What a great idea!! I would have never thought about the exhaust of a vaccumm cleaner. 8" of rain in hours would make most RVs leak. Around here we would call that submerged.

Michael thanks for the information and I am glad you did not get any yellow spots.

Michael did you have a specific place that you had to seal or did you just seal everything?

I installed a satellite dish - the MD500 - on our roof. Because of the sheer volume of water, it was able to pool up and leak into our roof through a miniscule hole in the sealant around the cables that went into the roof. Oh well. While I was up on the roof, I found *another* hole around our OEM TV antenna. So, I took two canisters of sealant and redid everything, including the front cap seam. So far, so good.

You should have seen me at 2am with a vacuum hose in the ceiling! I must have looked like a bozo! Then, the next day, I was up on the roof (during a BRIEF let up in the rainfall) caulking everything...
