Where are you snowbirds roosting this winter?

We would like to hear from you about snowbird wintering places in the southeastern US.

We are planning to follow the New England Fall Foliage changing next year and spend some time traveling down the east coast, eventually wintering down south (Nov/Dec to Mar/Apr).

I know this will seem early for some but I’m told that the good areas/parks are booked up year(s) in advance. I also realize that all areas have their own advantages and disadvantages. We will explore the benefits/attractions in the parks/areas you suggest.

Like everyone we are looking for warm weather and sunshine with not much humidity but clean facilities and safety is also an issue.

Thanks,
Ron and Linda

If last year is any kind of indicator, there will be lots of vacancies in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

Many travel and don't stay in one park for the season, many stay in one park.

Security as an issue, my suggestion, is if you feel the skin crawling, leave the campground. Have only had that feeling a couple of times in well over 30 years.

Humidity, not as much of a problem in the winter. But, some of that will depend on the weather patterns. A few years ago in the RGV, it was miserable wet and cold, a once in 25 year situation, the year before, January and February could not have been more pleasant. Mother Nature does what she wants, we carry coats and swimsuits, so we can enjoy (???) her attitudes.

Warm is in the personal definition. For Carol, San Antonio vs RGV, San Antonio, can get pretty chilly, RGV, usually, (re-read the paragraph above) is mucho warmer. My preference is to head south till I see palm trees!

Unless you really want to sit in one place the first year it might serve well to stay somewhere for a couple of weeks or a month (many campgrounds give monthly rates) and then move on down the road. Find out suits ya.

Have fun.

I love Michigan, been here all my life. It is one beautiful state!!! But.............NO MORE WINTERS. I've had it, give me some heat in the winter months, but I will be back to Fletchers Pond (Near Alpena MI) every summer!

We have been rostin in Apache Junction, AZ. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a spot. I agree about the snow. I'd rather play golf at 75 than shovel snow at -20!

Ron and Linda, Since you asked about the SOUTHEAST, we spent last winter in Ft. Walton Beach, FL at Eglin AFB. I don't know if you have privileges at the military bases but Eglin was $400 month which included water, elect (50 amp) and a pretty decent pot luck lunch each Friday. Many folks spend the winter near Gulf Shores in Alabama, Not quite as warm as southern Florida, but we were happy where we were. You seem to have plenty of time to do your research, so check it all out.

BTW, We are staying in Texas this year, Near San Antonio. We thought Florida was too humid for us. Just our feelings, many folks love it there and heaven knows, there are alot of Winter Floridians.....

Winterizing the house tomorrow - family goodbyes are all done, via party at our house today - I know, I know... what were we thinking - extra cleaning and picking up when we were trying to clear the house in the first place...

Moving into the Montana tomorrow afternoon and spending the night in our driveway. Heading out down I-75/US-127/I-69 in Mich from here. Then dropping down to FL via I-65. Should be in Mouse Mountain Thu PM.

Dave I sent you a PM. You are going to have trouble on I69 to I465 to get to I65. Propane truck blew up under the overpass and east bound ramp is closed for weeks till open.
On topic, I will by snowbirding in Indy this winter. That's as far south as my job will allow me to go.

Aready set up camp at Fountain of Youth in S.CA desert. Weather has been a little warm, mid 90's most days but it feels great to be south and warm. Great season to everyone. Teresa

We are at our Winter Site in Foley, Ala. at Anchors Aweigh RV Resort. Very nice hear we were here last year. We Love the concrete pads and Grass. The long pads has room to park the Chevy HHR and the Freightliner on each end and still have room for friends and family to park. Hope everyone has a safe and fun winter. GBY....

We are now, as of a couple of hours ago, in Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, AL. Back on Site 460, "our site" at least for the winter anyway.
