Smells like .... Tinker Toys

So our old dog is barely getting around. So I took some plywood, stapled on some pad and carpet, added a couple of fold down legs, and made a platform for him so he can lay down in the back seat area of our crew cab.

So on Tuesday morning, I get in the truck to take the rig back to storage and when I get in, it smells like -- Tinker Toys! Yep, that was the first thought I had when I sat inside the truck. I guess that in an enclosed space, that new plywood gives off the same smell as I used to remember from opening a new barrel of Tinker Toys.

I know, I've dated myself with that reference, but it did bring a smile to my face.

There's no end what we will do for our Fur Babies. They must have tried to find a way to cover the formaldehyde smell.

Yeah, pretty sure. I didn't have Lincoln Logs growing up.

Sadly, he only got to use the platform for two outings. His decline really picked up speed the last few weeks and we made the hard decision to euthanize him last Friday. The vet had maxed out his pain meds and he was still in distress, so it was time. The house (and our hearts) sure feel empty.

They become beloved members of our familys.
We have our pet cemetery. Several members of our family is buried in it and some day I will be buried close by in our neighbors cemetery.

Dave,

Thanks for giving him a good life and doing the right thing by him when his time came. Dogs give us unconditional love and deserve the same from us.

Our condolences Dave. We know just how you feel, we had to put our companion down a couple days before you did. The same situation; he had trouble getting around and breathing. We went to the vet to have him looked at; after the examination she said "if you are here to ask me if it is time, the answer is yes". A very compassionate person who helped us with a hard decision. There were a lot of tears in that room, including hers.

After 14 years, the house is a lonely place.

Scott and Alta,

I am very sorry to hear of Kodiak's passing. He always reminded us of our chocolate lab that passed way to early. It great that you had a good vet. I know how hard it is.

We are headed back to Heber City in a couple of weeks to meet up with some friends we convinced to go up there. Really sorry we will not make it to Oregon, I hope something gets set up for next spring otherwise we will book Heber City again.

Good dog

Sorry for your loss. Our dogs become part of us and when they go it really hurts. Some days I wonder if old Fern is going to make it, but then every night after supper she gets rowdy and MAKES us go out and throw the ball. She does not know that she can’t run fast anymore...gotta love those white faced dogs!

Thanks Scottz. I see that Kodiak was labrador too. The vet said that what Sully had was some sort of neurological thing that starts at the hips and works its way forward. He said that they used to see it mainly in German Shepherds but now are seeing it in labs. Since Sully was a labradoodle, he said that this came from his lab side. Anyway, like you said, issues with both walking, getting up, and breathing. He'd walk a few steps and be panting like he ran around the block.

Sorry for your loss.
