Water Pressure Regulator

Up until now, I have been mainly a weekender, but soon will be moving toward a part-timer. With this in mind, I have begun looking into pressure regulators.

I have identified three models;all Watts

H560 - 0 to 60 psi w/ gauge, 2 - 2.5 gpm
IR56 - 0 to 60 psi w/ gauge, 3 - 3.5 gpm
263A - 10 - 125 psi w/ gauge, 4 - 4.5 gpm

What have you done, what product have you used?

Currently have, and have used, all three. Depending on the park flow rate (not pressure) they sometimes work, mostly don't. Was in a park with 80psi and only a 2 pm flow rate. Couldn’t get enough flow to take a shower with any regulator so we ran off the pump. Another park only had 40psi but real high flow and we didn't need a regulator and everything was great. I, personally, am so frustrated with regulators it hurts. I test the water pressure and then play with it until I can use the shower...

I know that this isn't a good answer but it's what I have found to be the case on the last 30+ years.

I have been using the H560 with a gauge for the past year. It has been trouble free, but the gpm isn't much. I have had pressure at 50psi and I didn't see any more water flow than when I had 20psi. I am now going to the 263A which has a better gpm. I also think the 263A can be rebuilt.

Thanks, was any one better than the other? I assume (bad to do that) the more flow the better.

The 263 was best, but most expensive. In the situation with high pressure but no flow rate none were any good. I was able to control the pressure but the flow dropped to less than 1 gpm. This was a park problem not a regulator problem.

I went to TSC Stores (Tractor Supply) and found a plastic regulator, gauge and the required fittings (in nylon), and put it all together. Seems to be working fine so far. Cost about $30, but at least it works, which more than I could say for it's two Valtera predecessors from Camping World.

The water flow is good as well?

Sounds like a better take a look!

Thanks

Nice set up Glenn... =)

I have a regulator but hardly ever use it. I have a water filter that filters at 2.5-3 GPM. If I use a regulator with the water filter, I do not get enough water flow for the shower.

I only set up the regulator when the park pressure is above 50PSI. At Avalon (our current location) park pressure is nearly 80PSI with an occasional spike to 90PSI. My regulator is set at 58PSI rather than the 40 to 50 PSI of those cheap brass or plastic regulators sold at CW or other RV stores. Which, by the way, you have no idea of whether they are working or not.
A month ago I used one my gages to test the neighbors 40 to 50PSI 6 month old regulator. The incoming pressure was near 80PSI his out going pressure was also near 80PSI. He never would have known his regulator had failed until the pressure would have blown a line.

My set up with the regulator, both gages and necessary pipe thread to hose thread fittings ran about 60 dollars

The water flow seems adequate for our uses, showers, washer etc. I have it set at 45, the park pressure here is not all that high, but my wife does not like the "kerrr-klunk" that the Sealand toilet makes when the pressure is higher. Now that the rain has stopped, maybe I'll go out and take a picture and copy down the part numbers.

When I cushioned the water pump to make it quieter, I checked out the plumbing as well. The hoses and connectors appeared heavy duty so I contacted Montana and asked about water regulators. (Up to then I'd been using a brass one and wasn't happy) Montana customer service said that no regulator was required or recommended; I could attach directly to local water. Skeptical, but wanting a good shower, I removed the regulator. That was in December and we haven't used a regulator since. The showers are great! ...and no leaks so far. We are full-timers and leave the water connected and on, unless the temps are freezing. Note that we have a 2007 3400RL.

Thanks for the post. So many people have the wrong idea about regulators.

Thanks to all for the posts! I have built a regulator with the gauges in & out. Now I will feel safe if and when I find a CG with high pressure!

I have pretty much the same set up as Glenn. I made my own by shopping at Lowe's and using a regulator just like the stick home. I do adjust at various locations to be sure I get the pressure I need within the limits. I am at a park now that runs 80psi in bound from the hydrant all time. I have my set at a constant 60 psi from the regulator to the trailer.
