Fire Danger

Out west, we have a number of fires going. Today, they arrested 2 campers from Alabama for 4th degree arson. They failed to properly extinguish a camp fire. Currently 2,000 people evacuated and a number of homes lost. We all love our campfires, but I know this will cause me to double check that ours is out.

has always bothered me to see folks call it a night, go to bed, and leave a fire still burning.

The only safe way to have a fire when it's this dry out there is not to have a fire. Is it really worth the risk?

Same here. If the fire danger is above low, a campfire isn't that important to us.

We enjoy a camp fire and have a special pit at home. But when it's windy and high fire danger, we don't burn. We were north of the Beaver Creek fire and did not have a fire this past weekend. Having lost all of our neighbor's in the 2012 High Park Fire, we try to be careful. These folks used rocks and dirt. Sounds like no water to put it out.

Yup. Not everyone loves the smell of a campfire (including us). We hate it when we go to bed on a nice evening and have to close up the RV because our neighbors smokey campfires are gagging us. We use a propane fueled portable pit as well for many of the same reasons as bigskyjimmy.

We bought a campfire in a can for those time you can't have a regular fire, it has fake logs and runs on propane, you don't get the smoke smell and you still get your campfire. Most time if there is a burn ban these are allowed.
