Fantastic fan quit

We used our Fantastic fan yesterday. Today, during a rain storm, it briefly opened and closed on its own. Later, i pushed the button to start it up. It made a little noise, but did not open or start.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The rain sensor may still be wet.

That would be my bet. Dry the sensor, then let it air dry some more and try again.

The rain sensor has my vote but if that does not work, check to see if the fuse up there has blown.

That's why I installed vent covers, so we could maintain ventilation even during rain storms. Had the Fantastic fan shut down once during rain, and was surprised when it did but remembered it had the rain sensor. I'm much happier having the covers in place.

We do have vent covers. So maybe it did not get wet.

Vent covers

I have vent covers on all 3 fans and I have noticed that sometimes in a wind blown rain situation - the covers still close. I suppose they are working as designed.

I've always had covers and still had them close from time to time even with a heavy fog once.

The fan cover was closed during the rain storm, but opened briefly on its own.

Having left it for a day, I tried it again and it appears to be working okay now. So you people were right - it must have gotten wet, in spite of the fact that we have vent covers.

On the bottom left of control panel, you'll see a button with one arrow going up and one going down. Press and hold until it beeps and a red light comes on and it will have disarmed the rain sensor. Press the very top button and your fan should come on and dry out. Do the same thing reverse and you'll be back in business. Hope that helps.

The OP said that it made a little noise when he tried to start it. That's telling me that it's not the rain sensor. The sensor breaks the continuity completely cutting off any power to the fan. It's either a open circuit (when it gets wet) or a closed circuit when it's dry. No in between.

I believe the sound it makes is the roof hatch motor attempting to open. The fan motor doesn’t get power. When the rain sensor is active.

Had the same problem. First, check the fuse as sometimes they corrode. Next, exercise the switch on the vent four or more times for the same reason. It's hard to reach on a fiver without a ladder. With our fiver, we used a stick to do that. In this case it was the switch, and the fan worked after that. When all else fails, dry the sensor and check the voltage at the fan.

Probably the circuit board. Replaced both of mine. The manufacture sent to me a new one each time, no charge.

There is a tiny reset button on the frame. Use a paper lip to reset. Also, the lid may have simply stuck on to the lip. Take off. The screen and push it open to unstick it slightly and then try to open. Put a little grease on the edges. Good liuck.
