running lights while parked

There was a post a while back about putting fuse in plug to turn on lights while parked. Could someone point me at that post.

You can put a fuse between the Auxillary and Tail/marker posts on your RV plug. The Aux is connected to the RV Battery to the truck 12V, so you are taking power from the RV battery to power the lights.

See picture and orientation of the plug:

Hope that helps.

You can go into the terminal box on the Pin Box add a jumper wire from 12V to the running lights run this jumper through a toggle switch that you can mount on the outside of the terminal box. Flip the toggle and all your running lights will come on!

Why?

Because it looks neat.

Very few folks in the campground know this trick. So your Monte will be all lit up - different than any one elses, and all you did was stick a 20 amp fuse into your trailer pig tail. Plenty of buck for very little work. No drilling holes, no installing switches, and when you pass the trick on, you'll be passing it forward. For the price of a 20 amp fuse I've made plenty of friends in campgrounds!

Makes it easier to find in the dark. Once everybody else does it then all bets are off.

At campground were at the fire ring is behind RV. Running lights would give us lights without being too bright, I hope.

This would work real good at Quartzsite going home from the fire

I think I'll try the fuse route 1st to see if I like the way it looks. If I do, then I'll go the switch route.
Both good suggestions! Thanks.

Ok, I guess I'm STILL not getting this.....so you put the 20 amp fuse in the cord that goes from where the pin is to the tow vehicle then plug into the tow vehicle? Or no, guess you cannot plug into the tow vehicle as there is a fuse in the way! I'm sorry, but for some reason this concept has been hard for me to grasp! With just the fuse between the two spots you will get the Monty lights to come on? To turn off, remove the fuse. So this means you are drawing the power from the battery then, but you are charging the battery as well if you are plugged into shore power.

Please correct me if I am STILL wrong!

Someone had said in an earlier post that there was something you could purchase that would achieve the same affect, plus more, such as blinking, etc. what would you look for if you were looking for that?

Thanks for barring with me!

It is somewhat hard to picture without any aids. Take a close look at the pic TrlGuy posted. The male plug (from the RV) is what we want to use. Take a 20 amp blade fuse, bend it slightly so that one blade goes into the Auxiliary slot and the other blade goes into the Tail Marker slot. Current flows from the RV battery to the tail lights and illuminates them.

Substitute a turn signal flasher for the fuse and you get lights that blink. This should be something you have on hand in case you ever have to leave the trailer on the side of the road. Or perhaps if there is an emergency, the blinking lights will help direct response vehicles to you.

Obviously the RV power cord can't be plugged into anything with these foreign items stuck in in. But, as you surmised, if you are plugged into power, the converter will re-charge the battery for you.

I carry a flasher, and if you break down on the road and for some reason have to leave the trailer, you can put this in the same two and all the lights will flash, or you can unbeknown put it in a buddy's trailer and watch the reaction, particularly when the tools start to come out.

Understood.
I'm thinking this is another one of those personal choices...

You can be sure if/when I come to visit jimmy I will just for you put some "disco" lights on my rig, although I am in your camp on this I would gladly wander just to see you do the "hustle".

What's wrong with you anyway, did you not ever have a car with those "cool" purple lights under the dash to impress the young ladies. My '51 Monarch was adorned with them even though I could not see them from the back seat....

"hustle" on buddy.

Ok, I understand. I look to get away from all of the street lights, neon lights, etc... while camping/rv'ing.
