Securing Freestanding Table and Chairs
OK the table is a no brainer although I wouldn't mind hearing some pros/cons on turning it sideways. What about the chairs? I am doing some towing over secondary roads and would like to avoid damage caused by "dancing" chairs.

We have a 2955 and the table is screwed to the floor and there is a long strap that is wrapped around the chair legs and the center post of the table.

Our chairs are so heavy, they wouldn't dare move.

We use the strap that came with the set. Takes 30 seconds and ensures I won't find the one and only bump that sends them airborne and causes damage!

Our table is screwed down but we don't do anything with the chairs other than to set two by the table and two between the two living room slides. Our layout allows for this. As a matter of fact, my wife seldom takes things off the table other than my computer monitor.

Like others, our table is screwed to the floor. The chairs never seem to move.

I currently use the strap that came with my Monty. But the screwed down table is not rotated and the chairs can easily be strapped around the legs and against the table with the current setup.
I am considering installing a turntable between the tabletop and the table legs so I can rotate the table against the wall enabling us to get to the kitchen area when the kitchen slide is in. Currently, we must carefully squeeze through because the table goes almost into the kitchen cabinetry almost blocking access to the area when the slides are in. If I rotated the table and can still put the chairs on the ends I think the strap will still reach all the chair legs even if the table is reoriented against the wall. Otherwise I may put one chair on each end and put the other two against the rotated table.
My 3500RL floor plan has french doors separating the kitchen and the living room and they cannot be opened when the living room slides are in so I cannot freely use that area.
To answer your question, if your chairs can still fit on the table ends after rotating the table, and the straps no longer fit, try a camping store and have a longer strap made or buy an extension and buckles to make your strap longer. Make sure you take your existing strap with you so the size can be matched accordingly. I may have to do that my self.

Our table is a Wall-Mart special with four legs and four chairs. It fits tightly into its place and when traveling it goes no where. We do however wedge a pillow or two and some blankets between the chairs and table to keep it from bouncing around and becoming scratched or doing damage to other areas such as the windows or the kitchen bar.

We do not use the chair strap, and have had no problems.
We do sometimes rotate the table to face the window. Depends on the view outside. I put the table top on a turntable. Be careful if you do this to secure the table top for travel or you could break a window.

Hi Roger,
We removed the bolt from the table in our 3475 just after we got it and never did anything with the table or chairs when we traveled. We never had a problem with them moving even in your area or on the roads in Alaska. We fornd things in the front of the coach stayed pretty much as is. It was only the rear if the coach that had to have everything secured.
Glad to hear that you are getting out and about.
Helen

Pretty much the same for us as far as not needing to strap down, however we found a use for the "pillow shams" that come with the rig. They fit nicely over the backs of the chairs closest to the window and keep them from rubbing on the shelf under the window and the chair next to them. This is the only use I have found for "pillow shams" other than buffing clothes... Dave

We replaced the OEM table because it didn't have a leaf. The table and chairs are unsecured and traveled on some bumpy Alaskan roads without any trouble. I do have to remember to move the table away from the kitchen island during travel.

Our table is secured to the floor and have questioned why we have to secure the 4 chairs but we do tie them in just for safeties sake, as I would hate to see them move then rub or scratch any finished wood. I will say the Monty does give a smooth ride with the Mor-Ryde suspension and hitch. I am impressed!

Thanks to all. I am sure glad I joined this forum. Will just put something on them to avoid rubbing and that appears to be all that is needed.
