Tire clearance to wheel well

2014 Montana High Country 305 RL. Replaced original tires with larger tires Firestone Transforce 235/85R - 16 which are 1" larger diameter or 1/2" taller from hub to top. MORryde CRE3000 suspension. Yesterday I found that the tires had hit the top of the wheel well and caused a little worn area over each tire. Would appreciate it if some of you with this set-up and larger than original tires would look and see if you are having this problem. Please reply to this post. Thanks

2011 Montana 3150RL ... Michelin 16" LT MX4's which were also 1" taller. No issue. Mor/ryde LRE 4000 suspension.

Tooth Fairy,
how much clearance do you have between the top of your tires & wheel well? I have 4 inches of clearance with the Power King china bombs I want to replace on my HC 318RE. I am not sure 3.5 inches is going to be enough if I replace them with LT tires.

Thanks Roger

Just a off the wall thought would be suspension caused issue...lesser equalizer than what we have on montanas and more than likely not the same spring pack. I would rather have to work on that than have lesser tires. John

youngr3. There is only 2 1/2" clearance between top of tire and bottom of the wheel well now. If I went back to smaller tires that would only add 1/2" Looks to be still tight if CRE 3000 has 3" travel.

Tooth fairy,

Do you have a solution to fix it? I wouldn't think your springs would be worn out already. I am sure not crazy about putting new St tires on mine. Hopefully some others will chime in on this issue

Thanks Roger

I went from the ST Goodyear Marabombs to the Michelin LT235/85R16 tires. They rub on the plastic fender wheelwell covers where it comes down between the tires when I hit a big dip in the pavement. Leaves black tire marks on cover. Not hurting the tires.

Took another look today. The springs only have 3/4" to 1" of arch in them. I don't know if that is normal or not. Will talk with Dexter and find out. Will post the outcome but will take several days to find the answer. By the way , that is Tooth Ferry not Tooth Fairy.

Tooth Ferry,
I am so sorry I spelled your name wrong. I have been so wrapped up in this tire problem and other things trying to get ready to leave in a couple of weeks.
I will go out to the fiver this morning & look at the arch in my springs. I will post my findings.

Thanks Again !
Roger

tooth ferry,

I just measured the arch on my springs. used a level placed at the center of the spring eye bolts, then measured down to the top of the spring at the center of the ubolts. spring arch is 2 inches. Hope this help !
