Half Time Micro/Conv Oven
I just got my 2005 Mountaineer 298RLS this week, and on my first little shake down trip, I was trying to check everything out and had the following problem. With the airconditioner on high, the microwave would run about 1 or 2 seconds and go off. The breaker was OK and everything else would continue working OK. When I got home I connected to my residential electrical and the oven worked fine. Has anyone else had this problem and what is the solution?

Yes, don't know why, but have the same problem, hubby said it may be the service in the campground. I love the 1/2 time oven, used it lots this past winter in FL.

Welcome aboard, Gordon and Carol! Congratulations on the new Mountaineer. Those sure are nice. The electrical problem sounds suspiciously like weak power at the park. If you have a volt meter you might check next time to see how much is being delivered while the AC is running and microwave is trying to start. If you don't have one, you can get a 'line voltage monitor' for 3 or 4 bucks at Walmart. It just plugs into an electrical socket so you can see any change in voltage. It's running ok at home is a good sign and a further indication the park's power is not really up to snuff. That happens sometimes, especially in a busy park with everyone running the AC at the same time.

I agree with Steve, sounds like not enough power for all the appliances to run at the same time.

Yes, we have had the same problem & worse.
We had an '04 Cougar before we bought our '05 Montana, and the 1/2-Time went up in smoke, literally, in that one. Smelled like melting wire sheathing. Unplugged it & got it replaced by the dealer after returning from our trip.
On a couple of occasions in the Montana we have had problems as you've described. Took the unit back to the dealer (A&S RV Center in Auburn Hills, Mi. - great service!) & they kept it for a week trying to re-create the problem - no such luck. When we picked it up, I tried it again, at the dealer, & POP! - there went the breaker. To make a long story short, it was my 50->30 amp dogbone - had a tiny bit of corrosion in the female end. They gave me a new one & the micro was good to go. When they were testing it, it was a direct 50 amp connection, and also 50->30 with their dogbone.
Since then, it has quit (popped the breaker) once more at a private park. The service was obviously old, & when I jiggled the connection at the box & tried it again, it worked (didn't have a circuit tester with me, but I DO NOW!).
