I saw one of those campers with a fairly large BMW motor cycles on a lift on the back of it and ask the owner about that much weight back there. He said the camper was built to handle 1000 pounds on the back of it. In other words I think it was built stronger than our campers.

Look closer at the photo, they have the daily driver loaded onto the back of the semi tractor. Was a dang nice setup! My DW wouldn't like it, unless it had an automatic transmission in it,then she still wouldn't drive it, lol.

I'm trying to figure out how he backs the rv up. Doesn't look like he has much room to turn with. I can just about have 90 degrees to work with but him maybe 45 degrees. Even with pull threws i don't see how he can pull in as i barely make it sometimes. Nice rig but to bulky for me.

I would "love" to have a rig like that but there is no way in h*** that we could get it into some of the places we boondock/camp.

My avatar being an example...Diamond Creek in Southeastern Idaho...many twists and turns right by the Blackfoot River including a blind u-turn so narrow that I can barely get my rig through (all the while hoping that someone isn't coming from the other direction) and a very narrow one lane wooden bridge too boot.

As a side note Diamond Creek is on fire at this time so no camping the rest of the year up there for us or anyone.

I know several people who have that type of setup. Before you get too excited, however, ask them about the cost of normal maintenance, let alone if something major goes wrong.

And that my friends is why the wife and I have a 5th wheel pulled by a 1ton dually instead of a Class A diesel pusher. Just too much to keep up and maintenance

My last rig was an HDT; just changed over the winter to a Mega Cab. Maintenance was less on the HDT then the pickup.

I ran the HDT 5 years and didn't have any repairs beyond regular maintence ($200 every 15k oil/filter/fuel filters). But when my scr needed replace on my pickup it was $3200 in parts.

I got better mpg in the HDT then my pickup is getting towing the same 5er. Insurance is a wash between them.

Parking does get to be a challenge; I do like parking the Ram vs the HDT. But, we are looking for another HDT, plan to be back into another one within the next year.

You don't mention that HDT's turn better than pickups. That's the biggest irritant to me - don't mind the length and width, but needing a half mile to turn around is a b*tch.

Yah, they can. But mine was singled long so a smart car or 3 quads could fit on the deck. Mine didn't out turn a pickup 😀. They are the bomb for long range running. We did a fair number of multi thousand mile trips and their is no comparison.

That rig will last longer then any 1 ton built today. You can get a nice used one for the price of a new 1 ton today. Though, 300-500 bill for fuel is crazy, however, you're not filling up as often. As for maintenance, it's a little more then a 1 ton due to bigger parts, but you're not going as often as a true owner operator of a rig like this that is working it daily pulling #20-#30k daily, stopping and going, inner city, etc. In most cased owning one of these in the long run could be cheaper then any 1 ton today

That would be almost like running empty for that truck. I wonder if he is hauling high end 5th wheels to dealers?

It is a private owned coach/tow vehicle. They do NOT haul new units for dealers, unless doing it illegally(highly unlikely), as it isn't DOT registered. Someone with a setup like this isn't hurting for the low paying monies to tow new units to dealers.
