Not everyone believes in 'Leave no trace..'
Why, I could just shake some people!
We were the guests of Walmart in Weatherford Oklahoma, ate one of their whole roasted chickens and had Amish Potato salad. Others had the Chicken as well, there were 3 semi-empty containers in the lot area where we parked, people just threw them out on the ground, Beeny-Weenie cans, a soiled blanket, water bottles, and things I would rather not think about again.
Thought the least we could do was Police up the area, I filled a trash bag and threw it in the back of the truck.
Losers, litterers, creeps and all them words for those ungrateful people.

Grrrrrrrrr's could not be better expressed Ozz. When we would take our children camping, we always showed them how to police the area before setup so we aren't stepping in others left behinds. Then when we left, had them help police the area for the next visitors. Today, our kids thank us for showing them the way to enjoy camping. When they go with thier friends and family on outtings, they use this practice and enjoy it more. Today they get upset when they see cigarette butts thrown on the ground. "Keep it clean so it's better seen"

That's why, even if the town doesn't prohibit it, some Walmarts have had enough and don't allow overnight stops. I think that's the same Walmart we stopped at coming home last spring. There was trash everywhere where the RV's were including an old mattress. As I said on a post last spring - "Some People are Pigs" - and that's an insult to pigs.

Wayne and I are park hosts at a 70-site Texas campground, and we could write a book about trash being thrown onto the ground and/or left on picnic tables. One of our jobs is to clean campsites after campers leave. We've grown to hate cigarette butts, white plastic grocery bags, beer bottle caps, and pull tabs, among other things.

I always thought RVers were a "better" class of people until I started overnighting at Wal-Marts. I guess I always get to the campsite after folks like Carolyn and Wayne cleaned up.
Now I wonder...

Same here as Wheelhouse, and c214dick. If campfires are permitted, we even leave a small stack of split wood for the next campers.

Ditto Lonnie on the firewood. When we camp locally we always leave our extra wood for the next camper.

Don't be too quick to blame rvers for the mess y'all see everywhere- I'm sure some of us are guilty of throwing trash on the ground, but many people eat in their cars and 18 wheelers- Not all of these individuals have been properly raised as some on this forum have been- JMHO- Don

Its nice to hear that most of us are outraged by the practice of not picking up after you stay either in a campground or boondock anywhere. Maybe we can make some change by example.

I have walked around the Wal-Mart parking lot picking up the odd piece of garbage and even put shopping carts back in the "corral" so they don't gravitate towards our truck and trailer.

When we lived in Germany we notice there was never any trash on roadsides, parking lots etc. They pickup after themselves and all the folks appear to live clean reguardless of social status. I have often wondered what in our American culture causes this behavier.

Entitlements? Social welfare? Giving young adults rewards for participating, but not for excelling? Lack of empathy for your fellow man? Living in filth? Laziness? Stupidity?
