Fought 30 MPH head-wind all the way down

But my stump-puller didn't even notice the winds
Made over 400 miles yesterday, down the Kansas Turnpike.. Tolls went up this past year..Boo.. in to Oklahoma, around the miserable roads in Oklahoma City, and into the west. I would have stopped 100-150 miles ago, but Sue had a stick she found at a rest stop, every time I started to pull over, she jabbed me in the ribs. When the stick broke we ended up at a nice Walmart parking lot. We are way in the end of it, not bothering anyone. I am having coffee and keeping the cats warm. My 6 'Big Boy' Golf cart batteries are keeping power on, they are only down 40% after 12 hrs, not bad. There are a few RV folks here, one guy has a great big old Army truck he modified into an RV, probably wearing a Tye-Dye shirt, using cooking grease for fuel and smoking dope over there. (Good for him if he is..) Today we are going to Amarillo Texas, I will try and talk Sue into that big steak eating deal, looks like a big roast, last time we were there, we watched a Texas college student give it a shot. Fun place. Love being on the road, and adventure around every corner. Have to hide all the sticks around here from Sue...

Been in the Big Texan Steak house a few times over the years. Seems like somebody is always attempting to eat the 72oz. Never seen one finish in the hour. Can not imagine how miserable it would make you feel if you actually did do it.

If you are looking for a cheap spot for the night the A-OK campground. Last exit on I40 just before US287 and I40 merge on the east side of Amarillo in only like $22 a night. Not the best looking place and only 30amp but easy in/out and not expensive. The last flight out of the airport is like 9pm and the first is around 7am so the planes do not bother you.

And how many caches have you picked up along the way? You know almost every rest stop has one......

Why is it that no matter where we are or where we are going, there is always a headwind? You would think at least once in a while we could have a tailwind.

Rick,
Parked right on Route 66 highway now, in a little town called Tucumcari New Mexico, poor little town was a boomer back in the Route 66 travel days, closed art deco motels all over town, they look just like they closed the doors 3o years ago and walked off. We asked a lady at a cool café if we could park in the lot next door, she said; "Honey, they park all over this town, you can park there." So we ordered 2 Sirloin steak dinners with mashed Taters and green beans with home-made hot rolls. Yummer..
We have our little Honda cranked up and are watching Direct TV and 'chillin.

Great description of a day or two on the road...

Something new around every corner if you take the time to look. I love all the old towns along 66. They bring back memories of my Trucker days.

Sitting here on the couch on the east coast I enjoyed the quick trip to Tucumcari. Thanks for the visit.

We love that little town and the few weird places that are still open. We'll be following you in a week. Safe travels.

Feelin' lucky today because from Sedona, AZ to Gallup, NM we had a tail wind! First one in a long time. Headed to the Albuquerque (did I spell that right?) Balloon Fiesta.

It is unusual, we have to savor the moment We have seen all the loaded Balloons and chase vehicles headed that way, have a good time and take a bunch of pictures!
