Wow! Thanks for the post Ozz! Doesn't apply to me but I'll bet the other members with Fords will be glad you made this post. Hope everyone that needs to see this gets the message.

Makes me glad that my dealer put Michelin tire on my new one. All the tires on the lot were stolen and had to be replaced.

Do you suppose those tires were made in China with the Missions and Marthons?? Problems sound very much like those members have seen on their Montanas

The Continentals on my truck were made in Mexico and likely all Continentals made in 2008/09 were made in Mexico. They lasted me 19,000 miles and literally were worn out. We rotate every 5000 miles and ran exact door plate tire pressures. Installed new Yokohama Geolanders and have 10,000 miles of majority loaded miles and they show little to no wear! Excellent warranty on these tires.
I have the Contintentals lose at home and will inquire for excessive wear. Evidently Ford got an excellent discount on volume purchasing of this particular brand, now they will have to start a recall process, which is not very profitable to the Ford shareholders!!

It is a Continental problem and they plan to fix it. Here is their fix.

IIRC, Because of CRS, Ford had this same problem back in 2001. I had just bought the wife the new model out Ford Sportrac. Wasn't to long after and got a notice in the mail about bum tires. Had to go to a dealer that had other tires in stock and have them changed out. We happened to find a dealer that carried Michelins. Seems they didn't learn the first time!

Thanks for the info. My original tires and wheels were changed at about 5000 miles and I have them sitting here. I checked the serial numbers and it looks like four new tires coming soon!

I just called Continental about the recall. Our tires have a DOT serial number on them. The serial number ranges being recalled are P51546YB3708 thru P51546YB4307 P51546UO1807 thru P515UO2308 P51546XB2408 thru P51546XB2607 These are the 3 serial number ranges being recalled. They were made at a plant in Mexico. The P5 at the beginning identifies the plant. My 2011 has 20 inch Michellins on the ground with an 18 inch Continetal spare. It's DOT number starts with A3 which identifies a plant in Illinois. What reall stinks is paying this much for a truck and having a spare which is a different size than the tires on the ground.

Dave, I am stunned that Ford put an 18" spare on your truck when you have 20's on the ground. However, after considering the fact that everyone is cutting corners I think I understand why they did that. I don't agree, but I understand it. Check the spare to see if it is the same height and circumference as your 20s. If it is then I would treat it as a temporary spare, like in the small and mid size cars. As long as the overall circunference matches then you can probably get by with it untill you have your regular tire repaired.
