Virginia Beach

Thinking about going there for a week towards the end of August. Any firtshand experience with a nice campground. On the beach is nice but not a requirement. Clean, safe and roomy are tops on the list.

There is a Virginia Beach campgrounds right in Virginia Beach, Holiday Trav-L-Park, locaated on General Booth blvd. Its not on the water but is nice. And not too far to the beach (driving distance). We have stayed there and it was nice. Go to Google and ask for Virginia Campgrounds and it will display a connection for all of the campgrounds in Virgina. This one will come up with others in the local area.

We have stayed at First Landing State Park, several times. We liked it quite a lot. It is a little tight but check the Virginia State Parks for more detailed information. It had water, electric and dump. Great beach for swimming and not overrun by people!

We have camped many times at the Holiday Trav-l-park and at First Landing State Park. HTP is very nice but you pay for what you get, especially in season! They do have a private parking lot down 1 block off the ocean front for parking to access the beach which is very nice.

First Landing is on the north side of virginia beach on the Chesapeake Bay vice the actual ocean but great view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and ship traffic entering/leaving Hampton Roads. You will be limited to certain sites with your Monty so try and get reservations and make sure they know how big you are.

There is a KOA near the HTP but we have never stayed there. It is okay but we like HTP better.

Best bet is if you are entitled to access to military campgrounds. Dam Neck is just south of the strip area, on the ocean front and very nice at $20 per night for full hook ups. We were just there two or three weekends ago along with the Kohls. Oceana Naval Air Station CG has many more sites and is newer but about 2 miles from the Ocean front.
