Hitching made Easy

Here is what I found made it VERY easy to see if I am hitched properly. I painted the hook part of the Reese latch to make it easily visible to see. I also have the 5TH wheel pin painted at the bottom so I can see the white paint there too.

This also works well at night!!

I did the same thing yesterday to the receiver, also, my handle rotates about 90* down when locked...I painted small white lines on both parts of the handle. When they line up, the handle has locked the hitch head.

I've also heard of people painting their fifth wheel receiver on the cab side with a line, or a piece of tape, when it is hooked up, and then their trailer hitch as well. It assists in backing straight into the trailer. Now I've not tried that either but it sounds like a good idea too.

The jaws on my hitch are painted school bus yellow and the pin on the hitch is painted bright white. When we see yellow around white on both side we are connected..That is ony ONE check.

Dennis, I've also painted the hitch jaws on ours but hadn't thought about painting the rim of the pin. I think I'll do that tomorrow.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
