S.Md. Nice bridge to Luray Best route?

Visiting son in S. Md, then S. on 301 across Nice bridge to 95N, then 17. Is 211 good road over to Luray? Do I have to go over the mountain or is there a tunnel. Is it a good haul with 36 ft F/W?

I think your best bet would be to take I95/495 to I66 west, and get off at 340 south towards Front Royal to Luray...or you could get off at exit 13 Shenandoah Farms and take rt 55 to Front Royal....I would not pull rt 211 with my Monty....can be done...just slow and crooked somewhat...their is no tunnel...other than as described above you would have to cross over the Blue Ridge...be safe!

We just pulled Montana over 211 coming to Fredericksburg from Luray. We were conerned but it was not bad. The curves are the problem but going up you have two lanes and luckily no one was behind us. The grade is 4 miles up and 4 down. After the Colorado mountains on I70, this was easy! We are going to Ft. Meade from Fredericksburg and thinking of going 301(you mentioned this)instead of I95. Do you know if this Is this a less stressful drive?

I've only been on 301 for a short distance, it's good 4 lane, but lights and businesses.

When I travel to Luray I take the route that Stan mentioned above. I66W to exit 13, route 55 to Front Royal, then 340 to 211.

Yes running 301 is less stressful than I95 and the way I normally travel. However, as stated there are many stop lights in Waldorph and Upper Marlboro, MD. and north to route 175 west to Reese Road Gate. There is a lot of traffic either way so do not travel during rush hours.

thanks for the replies. I have to postpone trip due to medical issues. Looks like a double cervical fusion coming up soon. Thanks, Ray
