CB Antennas

What kind do you like and where do you mount it. I have a magnetic Wilson I put on the roof but I get tired of hitting the trees with it, too high, wakes me up and scares the tar out of me. I have an aluminum tool box in a short bed.

I have a magnet mount Wilson also, it is on the corner where the side and front of the bed meets.

Ditto, mine works fair. I need to borrow some one's antenna meter to calibrate mine, I may have to break down and buy one at Radio Shack.

I have a thru the window antenna, base loaded, works well, with a Cobra all in one unit with a hidden interface. Works well. good range and fidelity.

I have a screw down permanent mount on my cab roof. Better range for the radio and it is an OK height checker for my trailer.

I have mine mounted on the top rear door about six inches from the hinge. I use a 4.5' fiberglass whip and a spring. My antenna is about 12' 6". It is my height warning. If it hits then I know the Monty will not clear. I want to get one that goes up to 13'. I know it should hit before the trailer does. The spring takes care of most lower objects and I need a wakeup now and then.
The mount is a gutter mount.
I also use the cobra one hander.
This antenna does whistle going down the road. I have a tennis ball to put on it and hope it will dampen the vibration.

Glen, how does the dual set up work when they are not very far apart. I have one fiberglass 4' antenna mounted on the drivers side, but was told that the dual ones had to be 6-8 feet apart to be effective. I don't remember the exact distance they had to be apart, but the guy told me I would have to mount them on the mirrors to get them far enough apart to work.

I don't have mine mounted anywhere. The Antenna and CB sit on the passenger seat while I'm driving and pick up transmission very well. I didn't want any holes drilled in the roof of my truck and don't like cables running all over the place so I opted for what I have and it works fine.

Ozz, I wouldn't go to Radio Shack...they're a rip off. I checked out their CBs and I got the same Cobra Sountracker II and Antenna for $50 less than Radio Shack. I would try one of your local "Ham Radio/CB Shops"....and besides that they have a LARGER variety of antennas, CBs and anything else you might need and they repair and modify units on the spot....and least they are knowledgeble about all types of radios, scanners etc. just thought i would let you know. I got mine from a shop that services the truckers because my magnetic roof mount did not give me any range and was obscured by the 5er to the rear. I was going to go for the dual-phase with the twin truckers mounted in the stake holes in the bed rail. The man was willing to install it but indicated that the dual-phase would not really produce anything better and because of the big footprint of the 5er I would lose almost all rear reception...maybe down to a mile or so. I went with the Wilson 1000 on the roof. Brought the antennae cable in through the dome light and under the roof lining to the front door post and then down it to the floor. Came up through the carpet against the firewall to my radio. You can't see the cable anywhere or tell where it is.

I have dual-phase Wilson 5000's on my big rig but would not waste the money for the p/u you need to get them as far apart a you can they want 9 foot between them to give you the best performance I have mine all the way out on my mirrors on the big rig and still only 8 and a half feet apart you CB is only as good as your antenna so do your home work and get a good match radio to antenna and you will be very happy with your CB I have had many different radio's and antenna's over the years I do have a preferance for wilsons and use a galaxy 95t with a little help if I can help anyone with there CB problems ask away I've been through the ringer on this one over the years so I've learned a little and glad to share
