trailer hitch on back question

Just wondering I see some of you pulling thing's behind your fifth wheel trailers. Boats,Bike or Quads on a small trailer golf carts etc. My Monty came with a small 1 1/4 class 2 hitch. rated at 250 lbs. I would like to replace this with a class three hitch, not to tow anything but to install a kayak / bike rack total weight around 300 lbs. Have any of you Monty heads replaced your hitches if so to what, where and hows of it.Was there any Keystone don'ts or warnings.

Several members have used this hitch http://www.hiddenhitch.com/content/p...ID=1050&part=0
Some have just used this, some have placed some bracing between the frame rails. Keystone & Lippert could refuse you service if you install a larger hitch. I don't personally know anybody that has had the happen but it could

The nearest Montana dealer to us welds stronger hitches on many rigs they sell.

I had my local welding shop weld a hitch to my 3150 to pull a boat with. Can you tell me more about a hitch mounted kayak carrier?

Our dealer says, modify the hitch and tow or carry heavier weight than original hitch allows, kiss the warranty on the frame goodby. For whatever that is worth.

I think the real basic question is how many MOC members (or just Montana owners) have actually had Frame Warranty Work refused within the warranty period because they have installed a hitch, and not just hear-say but actual knowledge. I bet the number is low to none.

I have a Mountaineer.. Do you know who makes the frames? I received a pamphlet that showed Lippert as the company for the slides and, I believe, the axles

I thought of contacting the company to ask about mounting bike racks.

Just my Opinion. The OEM hitch is crap and not even suitable for carrying a couple of bikes.

On our 2003 2955 we had a local welder make up a class 4 receiver for a versihaul 4 wheeler carrier. One local dealer was really impressed and referred other rv owners to him.

On our new 2013 3800, the dealer is having a class 4 receiver fabricated, which they will then install. When I asked if this would cause any warranty issues, their response was "if we install it, we warranty it".

This was before we signed the purchase papers, after the pdi.

Hope this helps.
