Same old...what new tires to get for the TV?

We have a late 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 DRW (i.e., 2008 configuration). It came with crappy General Ameritech tires that are at the end of their days. What do y'all recommend for replacement tires? The GM dealer suggests Firestone Transforce HT's at a reasonable price. We loved the Michelins we put on our SUV a few years ago, but Michelins for this vehicle may be spendy. Your comments will be welcome.

A very subjective subject. My 2011 3500 Dually came with Michelin XTAs (these we the optional All Seasons), but I wanted something with a little more aggresive tread (we're on a deadend dirt road up a rather steep incline), I looked at the Transforce but opt'd for the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor All Season tires (not cheap). Put them on the TV when it only had 2600 miles on it, now have 27000 and the tires still look like new. And best of all, we've always been able to get the Monty Home

Dave-- I had taken my original tires off the TV and put them on the Monte. They were Bridgestones. They are no longer on the Monte since they got old and started to dryrot from the sitting and I blew one of them on the way down to FLorida this year. I put Goodyear Wranglers on the TV when I took the Bridgestones off. They did not last as long as I thought they should have only about 22,000 or so so I put Firestone Transforce as Hook has put on. So far I've got about 12,000 on them and they still look like they are new. Pretty good tire so far!

My new F350 came with Michelin tires. After 21,000 miles, they look and ride great. The reason I got the Michelin was that the dealer had suffered all the wheels on the new cars and trucks on the lot were stolen. Hence, the Michelin replacements.

On the front of our Chevy we got 62,000 miles out of Michelin and 59,000 miles out of Toyo.

In my experience, Michelins have been the best.

We have had good luck with the Firestone Transforce, both on our trucks and trailers. I won't have Michelins on anything since their rubber plantation payoffs to the Viet Cong contributed to the loss of good young men

We just went through the same replacement for the Generals (they lasted 32,000 miles) and went with the BF Goodrich Commercial TA's all-season tire. Replaced all six tires and I think it was around $1100 out the door. Not a recommendation, just relaying what choice we made.

Had 2 sets of BFG's on our truck. The first set we had tread seperation on 3 tires, the second,Commercial TA's, the tread seperated, flew off and caused $1,200 damage to the truck

On both of My Fords I have found the Michelins to be the best. BFG are also made by Michelin but I just did not get the same miles out of them. The Michelins cost more but that has always been offset by the miles I have got out of them.

I just replaced all six of mine with Michelin LTX M/S2 235 80 17 E.
I got them through Discount Tire for $251 apiece + balance & mount. They are rated for 70,000 miles. So, it should be at least 3 years before I have to start budgeting again. I just found out that Michelin has come out with a 90,000 mile tire but it isn't available in 17 inch yet.

The next day, I drove 230 miles back to Mama's home base. The new tires (at 80 PSI) gave me 2 more MPG than I am used to with cruise control set at 60. WOW!!

A few months ago (maybe a year?) I got the same make/model of Michelins but in a different size (275/65R18). I'm on my way to the 70,000 warranty. I love the ride and the look.

The previous OEMs (IIRC they were Goodyear Wranglers) were okay. I got almost 60,000 miles on them but I've had good luck with Michelins on my trucks and vans.

Put 6 new Michlins on at 80,000 miles, at 120,000 miles just yesterday had to replace the front tires because of uneven wear at a price installed of $485.00. Thats an ouch especially with only 40,000 miles on a 70,000 mile tire. Don't quite understand why the outside tread got ground down so bad seeings though I had a front end allignment done when I got the new tires. But I do think that part of the problem is from the truck being lowered down in the rear with the trailer on it and taking weight off the front of the truck and with a ford when the front is lifted the camber changes a lot. So it could be that also. Or, and I don't want to admit it, but it could be due to me hitting a curb, hitting a pot hole or anything along that nature. Anyway, 2 new tires another alignment, Firestone rite rite air bags with air lift compressor and we are good to go. Heading out for the north country sometime in the next week.

Thats kind of disturbing, Im getting ready to put the commercial TA's on the 5er. For the truck im planning on BFG All Terrains when the time comes.

I would suggest PMing or emailing LonnieB (a reputable tire dealer on the MOC) to get an unbiased opinion of the Commercial TA's. I am sure all brands have isolated instances of failures, but the overall reliability of any tire is worth investigating.

First question- What size tires are on your tv? Second q- Do you have a local tire outlet where you are comfortable? Whatever tires you consider, be sure to check the sidewall info for nation of origin [ preferrably U.S.A ] and date of manufacture [some tires may have been in inventory for YEARS ] I prefer Firestone Transforce- JMHO- Don

DonandJudy_12, Our tires are 215/85/16's. Michelin has XPS Traction, XPS Rib, LTX M/S2 and LTX A/T2 tires for this size. Our local GMC dealer has a decent price on the Transforce's and they've been pretty good, so far, with other issues.
