Battery Upgrade
Just completed our battery upgrade from 2 12V 98 AH batteries to 4 6V 230AH batteries.
Should give us a total of 460AH!
Parts list:
4) Duracell Ultra 6V Deep Cycle Golf Cart Battery Number: SLIGC115
1) Century Plastics: Heavy Duty Battery Box - Holds (4) 6 Volt Golf Cart Batteries
2) 9" 2/0 AWG Gauge Red + Black Cables
2) 1' 2/0 AWG Gauge Red + Black Cables
The batteries fit close in the box and the box fits with room to spare.

Nice upgrade. Did you make up your own cables? You must have an inverter or adding one. You're ready for solar now.

You are gong to really like the results of your upgrade. The Great Carnac sees solar in your future.

I just installed 3 12 volt 100ah Lithium batteries so I get 300ah and 90% or more usage and they will fully charge in 2 hours plugged in or generator and about the same or maybe a little longer with 530 watt of solar on a sunny day.

Lenny,
Thanks. Amazon is our friend.
Still have the original factory inverter.
Solar is on our wish list but have a couple of other things pending.

Doesn’t that give you 920 AH? I thought they all added up for the total, otherwise only two batteries would have worked for 460AH.

Just picked up two from Sams last night, not going in our 381 yet but going in our other toy hauler that we use for our off road trips. Most times we need a little more battery so hopefully this will work, if not Ill add two more. I may make a box from some aluminum diamond plate plate I have laying around this way Ill incorporate a utility section & use up the extra space.

Bob,
Batteries in series double the voltage. Batteries in parallel double the amp hours. Therefore 460 is correct.

460 Amps x 12 volts = 5520
5520 x 40 = 2208 or 2.2KW
Used 40 because it is recommended to run bateries down no more than to 60% charge. 100 - 60 =40.
I guess I should have shown my work as back in math class

Just purchased a 2012 3582RL with solar panels and 4 6v batteries. What will this setup do for me power wise?

It's actually kWh not just kW. The 460 is Amp-hour. Check your units (reminds me of my engineering professors drilling this statement)...

when making this swap on batts, is it necessary to replace converter...or anything else? My original 2- 12v are over 3 yrs old (originals) and I have a res refridg. Will need to replace batts soon. Any advice?

As long as the converter has a profile for charging the battery type you select for your replacement you shouldn't need to change it out. If you have a res fridge that is being fed from a dedicated inverter than you should not be affected. You should obviously make sure you have ample amp hour capacity to run your fridge for the necessary time until you have access to your charging source.

Fridge works okay all day when traveling but since I will need to replace batteries soon, I thought that 2 6v golf cart type would be an improvement. Am I right?

Generally speaking yes. This is about amp hour capacity. You can generally get significantly higher amp hour capacity by selecting two 6v batteries, and even more if you can go with four six volt batteries. Two batteries in series and then parallel those two pair.
