Good Sam emergency road side assistance.

Just looking to see if any problems have come up using this program. We were in POV and not towing, fast flight for grandson #2 birthday, Came back to Seattle/Tacoma airport parking garage to a dead battery. Called for assistance but eack time somebody was to come, nobody showed. After 3 hours, may cell phone calls and a lot of time on hold, we paid to get they truck jump started ourselves. Of course as we get the truck startes at 11;45 pm somebody shows. Is this a common sitution with their service.

Don,

We've used them several times over the years and never had a problem. Sometimes it was an hour or two before someone could get to where we were but once it was because of many grass fires keeping them busy and another time we were a long ways from civilization. GS ERS always checked to see if we were out of danger and always checked back to see if the service people arrived and if we were satsified with their work. Sorry to hear you got a bad experience. I hope you touched base with them to ask them to reimburse your costs.

I used them once this year for an at home no start, and they asked if I would mind holding on to tell me the name of the company and arrival time, after a minute or so was told the company name and 40 minutes and would call me back then to see if help had arrived. 40 Minutes later to the minute, a recorded message asked if they had arrived press 1 and hang up, if not stay online for assistance. I waited about a minute and was asked some details and again asked to hold on, again about a minute and was told help would be there in 1-2 minutes. I barely hung up the phone and there was the help.

I can't remember the exact details of the phone calls but they were very close to what I wrote.

IMHO highly recommended

We've used them a few times and it has never been easy. When they sent me the last bill for renewal, I threw it away. No thanks!

We called them last year to change tire on our truck. Sunday afternoon on I-69 in Michigan in a rural area but not far,far away from anything. After 1 1/2 hours they were working a 60 mile radius away, hadn't found anyone yet that would "agree to their terms". I called a service 2 miles away, turns out he was the first they called, said they would have a hard time finding anyone because they pay poorly and slowly. Good Sam did reimburse us for the full amount.

We had a blow out with the camper on I-75 earlier this month. I called for a tire change. It had started to rain and if I would have changed it (which I could have) I believe it would have taken much longer. A very hard storm came through while we were on the side of the road. The service got there when they said and about 20 minutes later we were on our way; a total of about an hour. If I would have changed it I know it would have taken much longer because I would have waited on the rain storm to quiet down a little.

Now, with all of that be cautious of who comes out to work on your vehicle. The person looked like someone who may have had a history of drugs, don’t know but making a guess. Anyway I had to help them by getting the crank for the spare tire. When he went to put the lug nuts back on he wanted to put them on backwards because they wouldn’t start easy by hand the way they were supposed to go ( probably due to the hub being warmer than usual.) He said “it wouldn’t make any difference.” I wouldn’t allow that to happen so we started them as best we could and the impact wrench zipped them on in a manner that appeared to be normal. I don’t blame Good Sam’s for this because how would they know who they were getting anyway. This is the second time we have used them this year and once I get a call through to them it has been very professional and timely.

I was literally soaked from the rain but I was able to get inside the Monty and change clothes. The person who changed the tire didn’t have that advantage at all. They were courteous but I’m glad I caught what he was about to do.

Motor clubs are about two things, Driving the price down and selling you on the idea that you can't survive without them...... While owning a Towing co. for years, we ser. some m?cs early on ....noticed our call vol. drop.....asked the question.... were told co. xyz does it x number of dollars cheaper, don't you want to compete with them? ....then noticed that when we did get a call from same m/c, the customer was upset because he had been waiting an extended time after failed promises....bad feelings were already afoot when we arrived.... they wanted the low price until they were already in trouble , then they called us because we were as good as our word and they knew that because of records they keep. We stopped serving m/cs because we were not willing to be used to clean up behind their low priced unprofessionals. We survived very well and enjoyed our customers who appreciated our faithful and good ser.

Have used them two times in 4 years. Once wife had a flat about 30 miles from home. She wanted me to get off of work to come change it. I told her to call Good Sam's. She did but complained it took them 45 minutes to get there. She said guy was real nice and did a good job. Two years ago, I locked the keys in my tv in Galax, VA while we were unhooking the Monte. Wife forgot to bring her keys so we borrowed my dad's tv and were going to drive 2 hours home to get the spare. About 30 minutes from the cg I remembered that we had Good Sam's RA. I called and they sent someone. It took them 3 hours to get there but it saved me the fuel and time of driving back home. We were able to wait in our Monte (wife had those keys, lol). It was about 2am when the help arrived though. Other than the wait, we are satisfied and have had the service about 7 years. I really carry the service because after having back surgery, I don't want to have to change tires on my tv or rv. Worth it for me.

I have only had to use them once to help out with a blown tire on the Monty, on the side of a highway in NH, and our experience couldn't have been better. A truck showed up in about 30 to 40 minutes with all the proper equipment to change the tire and about 20 minutes later we were back on the road. The service truck even offered to sell me a new Goodyear tire to replace the blown one but I had all ready decided to replace all four with new tires when we got to our destination. At least for this incident I was very happy I had switched to Good Sam. Who knows what the next time will be like if i ever need them again.

Oh boy, where do I start. We ditched GS Roadside NON Assistance 2 yrs ago and went with Coach-Net and haven't looked back. Now for our story, you might want to get some pop corn and a coke before you start reading this.

When we first bought our motor home to start this long timing lifestyle, we were traveling through Albuquerque and the nut came off the trailer ball with the tow dolly and my GMC Envoy on it. It happened on a curve on I40 in downtown Albuquerque at about 11pm on a Saturday. We were in a life threatening situation, car screeching tires as the came around the curve. I was over to the right as far as I could get and still get the door open. I called GS and had to wait on hold for over 30 mins. and no answer. I finally called 911 and explained our situation only to be told they wouldn't send anyone unless there was an accident. You don't want to know what I told that dispatcher.

I called GS back and was on hold for another 20 mins. When someone did answer, they acted like they could care less. They said it would be approx. 45 mins to an hour before they could get someone there. I decided to leave my wife with the MH and pray she didn't get killed while I unhooked the Envoy, went to walmart, purchased a new trailer ball, installed ball and got on our way.

I still had 1 year left with GS. The next time we were in Oregon and decided to drive to the coast and drive out on the beach in our GMC Envoy. We got half way out on this sand road and our 4x4 went out. I called GS and they told me, since I was not on a hard surface road, although the sand road was a county marked road, That they would call a wrecker, but I would have to pay for it out of pocket. $300 later we were able to drive to a repair shop in 2x4. I have to wonder, if we had been on a gravel road would we have had coverage.

When we left Oregon we had an inside dual blow out on the hwy. Called GS waited a long time on hold. They sent a wrecker and the driver was so stupid, he said they didn't tell him it was motor home, but did tell him it was an inside dual tire, duh, so he did not bring the correct size socket to change the tire. I about lost it when a State Trooper showed up and gave us an escort to the next exit and a tire shop.

I won't bore you with any more. We switched to Coach-Net they day we bought the Monty. We've had to use Coach-Net once for my wife's car. It was stuck in drive. The wrecker driver was there to pick up the car in less than 20 mins.

I "paid for" my membership and first renewal some years ago, two DAYS after I bought the membership, when I had a flat tire on my 5er away from home.

Since I travel mostly alone, I like the security (OK, the secure feeling, for the wiseguys) of being able to make one phone call, and having some assurance that GS won't send an axe murderer out to assist. The Mossberg and I can be pretty intimidating at the scene of a tire change, but it only holds five shells, so little ol' me won't be cold-calling a "repair guy" and not knowing what will show up.

We have had them for 3-5 years and only used them for a tire change and had no issues. This has been our unlucky year of traveling and have broke down x4 this year with truck issues. Each time it was like talking to Forest Gump. The last was the deal breaker for us. We where attached to the TV and Monty in a resort area holiday weekend and they could not find the street or city that we where in. Finally the police officer said he was calling a tow truck himself. I notified Gs and they said they could not gaurantee payment. However I hung up got a different dispatcher gave them the tow truck co that the police called and they ok'd for them to tow us and made the calls to them for reinbursment. It has not been easy each time we have called. But on the other hand this year they have towed us 4x and we have not paid a penny. The wait has not been an issue the staff when you call is rediculous. You tell them over and over your location and they are just plan dumb. I realize they are not in the state you are in but geez with traffic zipping by you want to talk to a professional and not start over and over your location. Each time I have spent at least an hour on the phone initating the tow. After that is done the tow has been pretty quick. I like the program just would like to find a better company that is easy to work with.
