Mods for the TV hole COMPLETED by 90%

DW went out a bought a new flat screen TV Vizeo Razor 1" thick for the monty, and Im so happy to get that 65 lps monster out of that hole, moving it was a act of God almost.
I'm to cheap to spend money for a bracket so I improvised and came up with this I idea, a cabinet door that has a Piano hinge that will be screwed into the OEM cabint face frame then I can use the inside for DVD's and CD's
I will up date the pictures as the project goes forward, I cant install and take pictures all at once due to being parked on my street and with my neighbor parked in front of his home and if the street side slide is to be opened ot access the TV Hole I would become a hazzard to traffic so I have to wait untill Pete moves his car then I can post more pictures.
here are a few Pictuers to give you a Idea of what I'm trying to convey to you.

door being stained to match the original cabinets,

I have the door up now but you will have to wait untill I take some more pictures. should be by tomorrow.

On Edit today Sunday 1/16.11

Ok here it is conected and up I will do the rest a the Q hooking up the wires and stuff.

here it is with the door open to access the wire and connectors this space will get a CD and DVD holder installed when we returm frpm the Q.

And with it closed I wii have to shave some of the door bottom off because the cabinet frame was not square it makes the door look out of square with the margin at bottom.

This picture shows how much room is between the slide and the TV LOTS so when you open it wont hit.

I love the Kreg Fixture for quickies,
I still prefer dowells for strength, I have been getting ready for the Q so this will do for now, the idea can be inproved on which I will do when we return, mostly a bracket that allows the door to open so far as it is now the TV hits the faceframe when opened to far then the shelving for the movies and music.

TT,

Is that a magnet holding the assembly closed? Does the TV face the rear of the Monty?

Yes it is a magnet holding the door doofus. I have not turned on the TV yet to see if it's magnatism will affect the TV or if it causes distortion of any kind, Ill have to wait and see. if it does I'll use some vel crow in its place.
Oh! and yes the TV faces the back window of the Monty

OK I just took the extra mag latch and put it all around the TV in the house no distortion.
also the Magnet is made by Ives, "Super-Mite" Magnetic # 327

Not sure I would trust a magnet to hold it closed while traveling.

Don-- Did you make the door or did you buy it somewhere? Since we both have the same unit, your mod is REAL interesting to me! I've got the 32" LED unit just have to figure how to mount it now and yours is a great idea!

Hi Ron I made the door out of a bunch of scrap red oak.

A 32" flat screen in that area will have problems and one is this when the slide is opened, on mine the swing of the door comes within 1/2" from touching the finish trim that goes around the dinning room slide.
The thickness of a larger TV might be another problem if the TV is more than 4" thick there is the possability of the slide when opening might connect and detroy the TV and the trim of the slide the actual space between the slide and cabinet face is 6.5 inches.
If you have a lot of money, they do make those mounting brackets that have flexable joints, but mounting them on the TV and then on a support system in the cabinet hole will still add inches to the total thickness of the TV and opening of the slide. the TV I got is 1" thick they are making thinner ones, but are much more money, we got ours at Costco for 289.00 plus U.Sam. they are very simple to make if you look at the pictures.

Don, I really like that mount. I've been considering ways to mount a flatscreen in the hole in our entertainment center. By "kreg fixture", are you referring to a jig to drill the pocket screw holes?

Yes thats the one Will, the blue fixture with the vice grip to hold it and to assemble it.

Don,

Duh, you did say street side didn't you? I was wondering if the magnet would hold the door closed in a sudden stop... but that wouldn't be a problem unless you'd been backing up reeeeeal fast.

for sure on backing up,,, I added a block of wood that has the 1" by 3" magnetic is mounted to it also acts as a door stop for the door, I have been thinking of putting on a child proof catch on there just in case.

You have done a great job on the TV replacement. I too have been thinking of replacing my TV. I was thinking I might put the hinge on the top of the door and holding it open with a couple of gas pistons. That way I would be sure it wouldn't open in travel.
