bad axles?

Has anyone had a problem with 2002 montana wearing tire on the inside and blowing out. I know there were some axle issues in 2003 and later but I am not sure about 2002. We just bought this one a few weeks ago and I have notice some uneven wear on the driver side tires. If this is the problem, what brand of axle would be better?

I have a 2002 also but I haven't noticed any kind of abnormal tire wear.

According to the polls taken on this site, we are among a group of only 4% ownership for that year. There may be more people who own that year model on here but they have remained silent.

The first trip we made with our unit I wore a tire out between Richmond,Va and Albuquerque, NM.
I took it to a wheel and frame shop and they aligned the axles (had to bend one) and have had no problems since in over 20 k miles. Lot cheaper than new axle and you still may need alignment.

We have a 2002 model. We have had blowout problems with 3 of the 4 tires. Actually 2 blowouts and one tread seperation. But we have not had the uneven wearing problem. A significant number of folks have had the problem but either got the axles straightened out or replaced. Our axles are made by Alko. I believe that Dexter is now the brand that is used.

We had this on our 2003 and our 2007. On the 2003, the axles were not bent, just out of alignment (when we had them checked). Having them aligned fixed the problem.

On the 2007, we had a bent spindle on the end of an axle, apparently caused by the delivery driver. That axle had to be replaced and those tires are wearing nicely.

We are experiencing similar wear on the other axle although not at as rapid a pace as that first axle. I suppose whatever the delivery driver hit, the front axle took the brunt of it but the rear axle took part of it, too.

We're past the one year warranty now so I suppose this fix will be on us. I wish I'd thought about this when the first axle was replaced and just asked that they replace both of them.
