Broken shower door glass
The tempered glass in our "garden tub" shower door shattered yesterday as we were closing it. Big clean-up process, and lots of glass to dispose of. No reason for it to have shattered, but it did..
Nancy has always hated that door. It has never closed easily, takes up too much room and drips onto the rug when open...just a sort of a "pain", all around. We can get the door glass replaced, but at a significant cost. As an option to getting the glass replaced, we are thinking of just taking the remainder of the door frame out and hanging a simple shower curtain in the opening, using a tension rod. Anyone else done this? Anyone see any problems in doing it that way? There doesn't appear to be any structural integrity problem since the cross pieces ("headers") at the top and bottom of the door frame area will still be in place.
Comments / suggestions appreciated..thanks..

patodonn,
Putting a shower curtain there seems to be a great idea. Don't really care for our door either. You could give it a try for a couple of showers to see if it works out okay. It wouldn't be much $ to find out.

It sounds to me like it would work, especially since your tub is deep enough to hold the shower curtain in. Seems like a good plan and a chance to give it new personality.

We have the lyons folding, trackless doors in our stick house. They have worked fine for the last 15 years. They are plastic.

PJ ... sorry to hear about the shower door ... what a mess. Your shower curtain idea sounds good and I immediately thought of a curved shower rod I recently saw in an ad ... Lowe's or Home Depot or something like that. That might work for you.

Think this is the first we have heard of one of these breaking. Heard of the closet doors busting the mirrors, but not this.
Vicki, curved shower curtains??? Hmmmm, that does have possiblities.
Pat and Nancy, sorry you had this happen, I can only imagine the mess. YUCK! Let us know what you decide to do !

I am thinking that the glass may not have been properly installed causing tension on the glass or perhaps a small crack in the glass that went unnoticed..very unusual.. We have real nice shower stalls in both the bathrooms that we recently had redone and I don't think that they are glass..they don't feel like glass??

PJ, I'm sorry to hear about your shower door. Royal pain.
this is too late for you but maybe it will help someone else. Two things. First, if you run your finger through that drip rail a few times before opening the door, no drips. Vicki came up with this one. We've used this approach for a couple of years and it works.
Second, our door used to stick when trying to close it. The vertical magnet kept sliding down just a tad and was hanging up on the frame. A spot of superglue took care of that. Our door has closed very smoothly for about three years.
I'd be interested in hearing/seeing what you come up with for a shower door/curtain. Hi to Nan for us.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Pat,
If you decide to go with a shower curtain, here is a hint, did this in our prior TT. WE had tub, deep, tub, and shower curtain. Put a bit of velcro on the inside of the tub and on the out side of the shower curtain. THey grabbed and held the outer edges of the shower curtain in place, left one edge velcro free, so we could get in and out. Worked great for almost 15 years.
