Sea Stories

So, I work on the Maersk Carolina. A 1000 foot container ship. Caught the ship today in Newark. Talking with the guys about why the ship was delayed for 5 days. They said, On the way to Europe they had to dodge 2 hurricane force storms. They passed by one ship that had broken in half due to rough seas. On the way back to the states, they had to dodge 3 hurricane force storms. They passed another ship that had taken over 45 degree rolls and had lost over 500 containers over the side. I told my wife this. Big mistake!!

North Atlantic in the winter.....

I have to wonder if I was better off doing the Middle East run. (See the movie Captain Phillips).....
Maersk Alabama should be in the news again. I'm sure some are trying to keep it out of the media, but a sad thing happened just days ago. 2 of the 4 security team members (former Navy Seals) were found dead in their room. Each was shot. Investigation is ongoing.

Hard to imagine someone getting the drop on a Navy seal or other SF.

Got to keep the survival suit handy.
I'm thinking maybe I should start sailing in the Great Lakes again.

Good luck, John. Keep your head on a swivel and find a good spot to secure yourself, all of which I'm sure you know. I worked for the UAV company that watched over Philips during the hostage event. I hope that doesn't happen again! Wishing you fair winds and following seas!

News reports this morning say that needles were found in the Seals rooms. Now they are suspecting both died from a drug overdose. Something smells fishy in this whole situation.

Still in Newark due to heavy fog..
Yes, I hear the "official" story is now they died of a heroin overdose.. Personal e-mails between ships crews tell a different story I'm told.. I haven't had a chance to read them myself yet.

Isn't it interesting that the "official" story rarely matches reality!

In my Navy days, on a Destroyer our group returning from the Med, rode out a storm with over 60 foot waves. Many of our squadron spent 6 months in the Boston Naval Yards getting repaired, including the caries that was part of our group.

the former navy seals are just folks like everyone else and anything is possible. Google around there is plenty on that story like this.. http://seattletimes.com/html/nationw...lsshipxml.html

Here is an interesting site. It's from Cargolaw.com, an insurance carrier. I hope the link works. Bill
