NO MORE ICE!!!!!

We left home (Deming Wa.)the 31 st. Had to chain up due to ice to get out the first several miles of the county road we live on. No real problem, just took time. We do not go far each day. New Years Day in Medford Or. Friday AM did not like the pass report for the Siskiyous. Had a down day in Medford. Sat. AM cold and sunshine, lets go south. About 1/3 of the way up the pass all of a sudden 53ft. of truck and Montana start going sideways. Lucky no cars were beside us. It got kinda wild fishtailing at 45 mph on ice. Somehow I got us going straight and under control. (with DW screeming things that a lady should not say). It took quite a few miles for the nerves to settle down. Next rest stop we took a break to check out the rig. It was a mess inside. It must have snapped around like a bull whip. After picking up and cleaning things found no real damage. We are now on the warm side of the trip. NO MORE ICE.

See ya all at Q

Dick

ps ice only in a glass at happy hour.

Do you need a new steering wheel from the permanent grip marks that you put in it? We are glad to hear that you two are fine and that Toni has a new vocabulary that she can teach us all in Q. What day should I put it on the agenda? :-)

That is a scary moment, just hearing about it.

So glad y'all came through it unscathed.

Stay safe.

You said you were chained up. Did you have chains on the Monty? Do they clear the shirts?
I have a set for mine but not sure if I want to try them.

I tried one time towing a RV in the snow. I'm a fast learner and will never do that again. I'll wait till the spring thaw or leave earlier next time. It was something I'll never forget but have tried to.

I think we need to have Toni give a class in Q on the proper terminology to use in critical situations. I suspect there will be many informal recounts, but we all need to hear this together.

May the rest of the trip be all downhill and ice free.

Holy cow! My heart was pounding just reading about it. I'm glad you are both okay and that Toni "talked you through" the rough spots! Have fun in Q

mtheo, I only had chains on the TV. Only went 10 mph and did not use brakes as I did not want the trailer to slip. If I were to tow on the highway in conditions that require chains I believe that it is required to have chains on one axle of the trailer as well as the TV.

DHenry,

If it would have been me, I'd also need a new driver's seat!
