Intermatic Surge device

I wanted to share the Model number of the one I use, it doesn't shut anything off, it is like a sponge, it absorbes the spike, as I understand it.
Up to 300 amps of service capability, hard wired, LED shows Green if protection is in service
IG1240R Retail $118.60 (Home Panel Protector)
This is an old catalog, the one I put in my Monte is larger, but the same deal. I imagine the price is $10% or so higher.
(I think I paid around $65.00 for mine. Wholesale)
The picture is in my Ozz's Mods link

I have one from Progressive Industries. It is not hard wired in. It protects from everything except a lighting strike. If the voltage is to high or low it will shut down. It also checks for 220 and other common wiring mistakes.

I saw MikeM's link and it states it uses a 15 or 20 ampere 2-pole breaker...!? So please educate me a little, how is it installed and I thought you needed 30 amp min and up to 50 amp depending on what you are running in your Monty. I now use a Portable 30 amp Surge Guard which I hang off the power pedestal, is this the same type of unit you are talking about ?
Thanks,

Kim G. (kegger5769)

Kim, (You have to love a name like Kegger) Like if I was a football player, I would want the name Brewski....
Sorry, got off track. This type of device absorbs and shunts the spike, as I understand it, if you got hit hard, you would have to replace it. It does not shut off anything.
You just put the wires under the screws of the breaker, it can be a breaker in use, just so it is covering the desired buss bar; 30 amp service=one buss bar, 50 amp service=two buss bars. That is the way I have both of mine; RV and home, and the way I interpreted the directions.

I was at a campground in tenn. last week when a power-line came down and sent a spike throught about six campers mine being one of them. This happened while I was sitting having coffee in the morning, first the kitchen tv popped, then the bedroom tv popped,on the way to the bedroom I noticed my electrical box smoking also,I turned off the main breakers and started to air the monty out.Brought the monty back to the dealer(hamburg NY)where it is sitting there now waiting to get a damage report.I guess I need to get educated on surge protectors

A lot of people don't have a surge protector, others may over protect. But I feel that I'd rather over protect than not have any protection at all. Your experience with the surge you had is rare but it only needs to happen once. It'll be interesting for you to tell us how much it will cost to make the repairs. I like the minimal amount that we have to pay for surge protection as compared to the total amount of any damage experienced.
