Improvements on our South Padre Lot
Our new lot here on the Island was pretty rough, nothing had been done to it at all, except the original concrete slab and drives.
We wanted a nice grilling area and a small patio there, as that is well used in our experience. A wind block is also a good idea here on the Island.
Off to Lowe’s we went with some notes and material guesses. I loaded the truck with around 120 12x12” pavers for the patio, parking and walk areas. I decided that was a good time to order the Timbrens overloads.
Sue and I dug out the grass and weeds, the root system is like intertwined steel cords, I had to use the broad end of the pick I brought for this deed, nothing but hard work.
We laid, leveled the individual pavers and graded the area for good drainage. Sue sifted the fine sand so we could fill the cracks around each paver, then we brushed it in. Turned out pretty well for a couple of amateurs.
The fence was next, we wanted to sit in our lawn chairs and not have the views blocked, but still have a wind block, so I bought a 6’ fence, then cut it in half. I had to move a cross brace, and add an additional one. After I cut it, I made a template and cut the top corners off with a pull saw, then sanded the edges.
We set the posts in concrete, waited a day and set the fence.
I counter sunk lag screw holes and secured the fencing with 4 lag screws each post. It will not be easily removed……
Sue will fill in the bottom fence areas with the Red plants in the last photo.
It was a $2500.00 to $3,000.00 job we completed for around $250.00 We are both sore, but happy with the result.
I still have many pavers to set around the Montana and truck.

Very nice Ozz. I know it was a lot of hard work, but now you can sit back with a cold one and enjoy the results. You guys will probably even forget about the sore muscles, lol.
By the way, I couldn't help but notice both of you were wearing your steel toed flip-flops  .

Ozz, great job!! Its hard work but sure will be nice to have the wind break and patio to enjoy. South Padre Island is one of our favorite places. Used to stay in condos on the beach for years before we started RVing. Have been twice in the RV, once in Port Isabel and once at the now KOA just across the bridge. How do you like the State Park?? Crowded? Noisy? Windy? You have just completed a very nice upgrade to the property, how difficult was it to get permission to do this? We plan to travel back to SPI soon and may have to try the State Park.

Wait just a minute now. I checked each picture very closely and nowhere did I see a "building Permit" posted. 
Oh well, if I was the building inspector, I liked what a seen, and....a lot of credit for hard work.

Thanks guys and gals. You know the old saying, I would rather beg for forgiveness than ask for permission....
Actually, they endorse improvements, but no structures. Some tow a small-or large- trailer down with a washer and dryer in it.
The Isla Blanca is actually a county park, Cameron county. It is booked solid with a waiting list after...I don't know the date, but we got our site from a man who decided to go inland after 15 years or so here at C-146. I think it is just a little windier than a few miles inland, we don't mind it at all.
Stiles, you are in for the 2%...after expenses, of course.

Very nice - a little privacy and a windbreak.
I would dearly love to be down remodeling a site to park in for the winter. Maybe someday when I grow up...still waiting for that ship to come in...stubborn deal though...it's fighting me every step of the way.

Great looking job OZZ, however, I didn't see the C of Cs (Cooler of Coronas). I still have some electrical mods to do, but you know me and electricity.......Not sure when they will get done......

Today we planted a bunch of some Red and green do dads in the ground around the fence, and placed 4 Palm trees, a Lime tree...for the Coronas, of course, a lemon tree, a Basel, Bagel...hell, I don't know, a bunch of green stuff.
Starting to look fairly nice.
I still got my 6 mile ride in this A.M., and we are headed to the Wahoo bar for the Sunset dive of Ole Sol.
