Instructions for holding tank installation

This pertains to Travel Star tanks. With all the tank failures we are seeing, I thought it might be good to have the manufacturer of the tanks actual information available.

Travel Star’s Recreational Vehicle Holding Tank Installation and Maintenance Instructions
I. OEM Fittings Installation
1. NOTE; when attaching fittings to tanks, applying too much glue can cause a failure in the tank(s) performance.
2. NOTE; when installing fittings on the top of the tank(s), locate the position from the side wall of the tank and not the top edge.
3. Liquid Holding Tank (“Grey Water”). The liquid Holding Tank(s) must have a 1 ½” NPS (minimum) drain pipe installed at the lowest point of the holding tank. A 1 ¼” NPS (minimum) vent pipe must be installed in the top of the holding tank and plumbed in accordance with ANSI A119.2 and CSA B45.6.5 Waste - Holding Tanks. Fixture plumbing must be installed in the top of the liquid holding tank. All liquid level sensors must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Body Waste Holding Tank (Black Water). The body waste holding tank must have a 3” NPS drain pipe installed at the lowest point of the holding tank. A 1 ¼” (minimum) vent pipe must be installed in the top of the holding tank and plumbed in accordance with ANSI A119.2 and CSA B45.6.5 Waste - Holding Tanks. Fixture plumbing must be installed in the top of the liquid holding tank. All liquid level sensors must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

II. OEM Holding Tank Installation
1. NOTE; at NO time should the Holding Tank(s) be walked upon.
2. The location and installation of a Travel Star’s holding tank(s) must be installed in accordance with the latest version of the ANSI A119.2 and / or CSA B45.6.5 Waste - Holding Tanks.
3. Position Holding Tank(s) in a location that is protected from potential road damage (i.e. debris “kicked up” during transportation).
4. Holding Tank(s) must be positioned so the outlet is located at the lowest point of the tank. The support system used to install the Holding Tank(s) must provide sufficient support to limit the Holding Tank(s) from having excess bulging when it is filled to capacity.
5. Secure Holding Tank(s) – Attach strap to the Coach frame, run strap beneath the Holding Tank, and attach other end of the strap to the Coach frame. NOTE; Select a strap material that will not damage the tank, (especially during transportation - vibration). (minimum of 2 positioned to divide the load evenly)
III. Care / Maintenance Instructions
1. Care – In Use, whenever possible, drain the holding tank(s) before transporting. Waste water and sewage in the holding tanks reduce the carrying capacity of the Recreational Vehicle.
2. Care – In Use, drain the holding tank(s) only when they are at least ¾ full. If necessary, fill the tank(s) with water to ¾ full and then drain. This provides sufficient water to allow a complete flushing of waste material into the sewer system.
3. Maintenance – Winterizing, Flush holding tank(s) with fresh water until holding tank(s) are clean
4. Maintenance – Winterizing, Store Holding Tank(s) empty.
IV. CAUTIONS
a) DO NOT alter the tank from its original size or mounted location.
b) Local and / or State Regulations may prohibit Highway travel unless the holding tank(s) outlet(s) are securely fastened.
c) Use tank flushing chemicals / cleaners that are approved by the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturer.
d) Use ONLY RV type toilet tissue and approved chemicals to prevent corrosion of sensors and / or odors from tank(s).
e) DO NOT use any petroleum based cleaners to clean the holding tank(s).

f) WARNING
HOLDING TANKS ARE ENCLOSED SEWER SYSTEMS AND AS SUCH, MUST BE DRAINED INTO AN APPROVED DUMP STATION. BOTH BLACK AND GREY WATER HOLDING TANKS MUST BE DRAINED AND THOROUGHLY RINSED REGULARLY TO PREVENT ACCUMULATION OF HARMFUL OR TOXIC FUMES / MATERIALS.

NOTE: Any replacement of a Travel Star “Holding Tank” must be conducted by the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers authorized service centers, if not, warranty will be void. Please contact your Recreational Vehicle Manufacturer for a list of approved service centers in your area.

If anyone would like a PDF containing the above info, please shoot me a PM containing a valid email address. Mods, please move this where you deem proper.
