I-70 in Glenwood canyon closed

I guess by now everyone may know that I-70 in Glenwood Canyon (E of Glenwood Springs) is closed due to a massive rockfall.

CDOT hasn't indicated when it will open.

yep, there's a detour, but it's 200 miles out of the way!

Glad they have good weather to work on it, but it's March, and we get some really hairy snows this time of year.

Not only does CDOT have to clear the roadway, there was extensive damage to the elevated portion that will have to be repaired. May be a while before it's fully opened.

We spent some time in Glenwood Springs and of course ran I-70 really beautiful place. Just seen on the TV that a women was killed by a falling rock while on the detour sad. GBY....

Good News.

The latest information from CDOT is that one lane in each direction is planned to be open sometime today (Thursday 3/11). It will be 17 miles of two way traffic and a restricted speed limit. CDOT did not expect there will be any surprises that would delay the opening.
