New F350 Dual Rear Wheel

I am looking at a 2013 F350 to pull the Monty. Yes, all of the posts about weight have scared me to death! At any rate, this vehicle has LT245/75R17EOwl All Terrain tires. Is this appropriate for pulling a 3750FL? Would absolutely HATE to buy a truck and then have to buy new tires - kinda like my Montana!

they look like they are "E" rated tires which are 10 ply and more than enough tire

Unlike buying an RV, if your truck has stock tires they will always have ones mounted that are in excess of the GVWR of the truck and the GAWR of the axles on the truck.

Don't worry about the truck tires but have a good look at what is on the 3750FL. Make sure you keep an eye on them and run them at Maximum rated air pressure as stated on the tire sticker on the RV.

Enjoy the new truck and RV.

Thank you both for your input. I was just unsure about the 17 vs a say 20 inch tire. Currently our 250 has 20 inch tires and am a bit concerned about going to a smaller tire, however from what you both indicated, all should be ok from that perspective.

Those are stock tires for a DRW Ford: LT245/75R17

The F-350 DRW set up is capable of towing the 3750, which we have. Just got back from the weekend, and towing was a dream.

If you listen to the weight police you need a HDT. Like a Volvo or something along that line to give you the cushion you need......lol

It's plenty of truck and tire.

You will be more than happy with that F350 assuming it comes with the 6.7 diesel. Read Ford's Tow specs for that F350 and any worries about weight will be gone. The tires are fine as is.

YES, those are the ones that got my attention! However, one can only do so much! Going to be hard enough driving around with a dully all the time. Any suggestions from anyone on how to keep the blobs that stick out the side in tact? My biggest fear, next to pulling the Monty with the 250 is taking off the fenders of this pretty expensive truck! Hoping I can keep it between the center line and the ditch, but you all do it all the time. How many of you that have Dulles have taken out a fender?

To me, driving the dually around has been no problem. In fact if anything, it makes you more aware of driving with the trailer. For example, when not towing, you do take a corner wider than you would for a car or single rear wheel vehicle. So when I'm not towing, I just drive like I am towing and make my corners more deliberate. The duallies (96") are about the width of the trailer, so knowing you can keep the truck between the lines, will keep the trailer in the lines. Drive-thrus are not always possible. In parking lots I always park way out because I don't want door dings anyway, plus you will often take up four spaces. The truck is only 16" wider than a single rear wheel, so only 8" wider per side. This really is not that noticeable, and you should have no trouble. Also, your width with mirrors extended is 110", which further makes you aware of how wide you are. If you're not clipping off the mirrors on things, you shouldn't be hitting the duallies unless you cut a corner too sharply.

I drove across Nebraska 2 days ago in about a 30 mph crosswind and was glad for the dually.Now airing up the tires in my F350 are a whole other story!

Had 20" tires on our 2010 F250 now have 17" on the F350 that I believe they are the same tires as you have and they are wearing well at 45,000 miles with about 1/3 of that towing. The thought occurs to me that 90K is possible provided no road hazard issues, but will see as the miles go by.

Great truck! You have more than enough. I bought the 2013/14 F450 cause they made me great deal ( paid about same price ) and I love overkill! BTW put 13,000 miles on her since April. It's getting great milage and been trouble free. Getting over 5000 miles on box of def. it's so quiet I can sneak into house andnthebdogs don't hear me! Lol

Just go out and enjoy the new truck, you will absolutely love how it feels when you tow. Don't worry about the fenders, if the mirrors don't hit then your fender flares won't hit either. After awhile you will be driving it like it's a sports car....love the power.

A good weight policeman won't tell you to buy an HDT or MDT, they'll just tell you to be compliant for you load and verify it properly. Other than the size of your tire or the brand, check the load ratings on the sidewall. This will provide the actual weight the tire will support (as SRW or dually). Then do the math for the ratings. Not all E rated tires have the same numerical load ratings so it's not automatic but the odds are very high they will work for you.

I also think weight police is putting the emphasis on the wrong party. If someone is non compliant they are a weight criminal. We should all be weight police, when you think about it, in that we should know and seek that we are compliant. That's my not so new story and I'm sticking to it...

Out of curiosity, what kind of mileage do you get with the 450? Towing vs not towing? I know with our 2012 250 we get about 21 not towing and 12.5 towing, although have only towed once for about 100 miles.

Well, I would just like it known, for the record -that I no longer fall into the "weight criminal" category! I know that I feel better! May even sleep well tonight! However come to think of it I guess I still need to weight the truck and the trailer to verify that I am within specs, but given that many of you full the same rig with the same truck I will continue to breath better, although poorer! This fun stuff sure is expensive!

Thank you all for your support and your great advice and answers to all of my dumb, dumb question! (I'm sure there will be more - unfortunately). You can all consider yourselves saints in my book!

Not meaning to be an instigator whatsoever....but, an F250 payload is probably not enough for your 3750. The only way to know for sure is to get a pin weight. I know for mine, even with an F350 dually, I am only within a few hundred pounds of the payload for the same trailer. And for what it's worth, the F350 actually has a higher payload capacity than the F450 because the F450 weighs more, thus taking away from the payload. Bottom line if you're looking for a new truck, a dually is the only truly capable truck to pull the weight of the Montana and be able to handle the pin weight.

I believe that I am happy to read your comments as today I bought an F350 diesel Dually and I am praying fervently that I will remain within specs for the trailer weight, but know that i am closer than with the 250 SRW. Will be going to the scales as soon as feasible.
