Yes all three meaning none of them are bullet proof.
Specifics are all over this forum by owners and their experiences.I’am sure you have followed this forum longer then I have.
As owners of these trucks we all purchased the one that we like to serve our purpose. As much as I like my GM I can admit that it’s not bullet proof.

Still waiting for more information on the knock besides the "yeah that doesn't sound right" I got from a service representative. To be fair the diesel technician was supposed to start trying to figure out what the noise is caused by sometime today. No call from the service department so I guess I will call them tomorrow.

@Dam Worker: “yeah that doesn’t sound right” is still better than “yeah they all do that”!

Well I at least got a call from the service department. Oil pan and or filter had metal debris. They want a replacement engine but are waiting to see what corporate is wanting them to do. I am not happy but before I do anything rash I need all the information on what failed and what caused it to fail.
Not sure what all options I may have but my wife was boiling over with extreme unhappiness. Suppose to go camping in two weeks but I also need to sell the old 7.3. One way or another I need a truck to pull the Montana.

I would make an appointment to meet with the General manager (not Service manager) and explain the situation to him, and tell him you want a new truck. You may have to push, but after a replacement engine, installed by local mechanics, the truck will never be 'like new", plus it will be out of service for at least a month. At the very least you should get an equal truck while you wait.

Well this doesn't look good for Ford.
If they install a complete motor than you should be fine. If they give you a block then install heads and other things not a complete motor than I would complain. If there was metal in the pan than it has gone through the entire motor. Wonder what has happened. Cerently not normal on the 6.7

OK I actually stop by the dealership this morning. I talked to the service manager and service engineer. It was explained that they found metal when they removed the oil filter and the oil color was not normal. They also hooked it to their scanner and check everything. They noticed a couple of injectors were in need of reprogramming(?). They only removed the oil filter to check this after listening to the knocking noise in the engine was making. It sounds like the NorthWest service manager who happened to be there last Thursday was not happy that I was told to continue driving the truck by the first dealership. They are waiting for Ford corporate to make a decision on how to fix the problem. I talked about not really being happy to have a brand new pick up and having to have a new motor or rebuilt motor being installed in my new truck. There was some discussion of a possible Ford buy back and getting me another brand new truck. All of this is just preliminary talking or negotiating as this is only speculation until Ford corporate tries to decide what they need to do.
As a sidenote another sales person came up and said that he had a box that was supposed to be with the pickup and it happens to be the trailer camera and wiring.
There was also some discussion on a loaner truck 17 f-350 SRW for my use while getting my problem resolved.

Dam Worker: You've got their attention, now keep the pressure on for a buy back. Also, check into your state's lemon laws.

Tom,

Good luck, sounds like they are trying to take decent care of you. Would not be scared to keep the truck with engine repairs after all you went through to pick it out. Might push for them to extend the warranty if you go that route. Also would not let an upcoming camping trip push you into a quick decision - assuming you get a decision.

Well here we go, Ford Corporate says tear the motor apart and see what caused the knocking with metal in the oil filter. I am asking for a new truck, we will see what happens. I guarantee you that I don't want a rebuilt engine that had metal circulating through it rebuilt and Ford expecting me to just be happy as a clam to start driving it. I bought a new truck not a refurbished truck. Dealership seems to be trying to help me and I appreciate that. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and I will have a new truck. Nobody should have to go through this type of soul searching after buying a new rig. For the record the truck towed my Montana like it wasn't even there. Both up hills and down hills it was always in full control. Even with the knocking noise it had great power going up extreamly steep grades. Hopefully this will just be a bad memory with a happy ending.

Okay I am hoping they do right by you, but there may be a way to gain some leverage. Ask the dealer if this will show up on Carfax. If it will, you may be able to treat it as and accident and ask for compensation due to diminished value.

I may not work, but it is worth a try.

I watch a Ford truck website. The normal thing that happens after an engine goes south is Ford will replace the engine with a complete engine or a short block. They will NOT give you a rebuilt engine. Replace the truck? Good luck with that. I’ve not heard of that happening.

With respect to the op.. $. 02 Cgi by itself shouldn't be a criteria. The long term reliability is. FYI Cummins will be cgi in 2020 along with their latest leap frog in the hp war.

Geez Dam Worker, sorry to hear this news. Here's wishing you a happy outcome. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road and will be resolved satisfactorily. Good luck.

cgi = compacted graphic iron engine blocks. Stronger than regular cast iron. So engines can be made with less bulk and therefore lighter. Ford has been using it for about 15 years. Don’t know about others.
